UNI Dual (2/11/24)

With mbb, wbb and wrestling this weekend, I got to experience it nearly a half dozen times.
It’s our (Iowa State) thing. Let it fly. People love it and don’t get to as many events as others and enjoy it. Maybe not more than once an event but definitely don’t cut it to just football.

Sorry little illiterate today. I meant here not hear

Kysen has not improved since he was a freshman. Him and Julien Broderson have not improved. What I meant by that statement is next year he shouldn’t be our 125. Obviously this year he is all we got. I definitely hope Kysen proves me wrong or else why would I give 10,000 if he makes the podium.
Thanks for the clarification-I wrongly assumed never followed by 5 evers meant never ever again, as in this year. Thought maybe you knew something I didn’t. Hope he does prove you wrong - 10,000 on the line or not.

Terukina should never ever ever ever ever ever see a wrestling mat for Iowa state ever again
Why? He's a good kid. If he is the best we have at that weight class, then he gets to wrestle, unless Kevin wants to try a younger kid in a particular meet. Just because you don't like the way he wrestles, or his record does not justify such a harsh judgement.

I'm also consistently frustrated with Kysen, but simply because I see his potential, and when reality fails to line up with what could be, it's frustrating.

That said, Kysen stepped in and took over for Mackall and has been a 3x NQ at a time when most had high hopes for Aden Reeves (top prospect with lots of Fargo hardware). Reeves, sadly, was never the same after injury, but Kysen has been really solid for an under-the-radar recruit.

I still hope he can take that next step and make it on the podium, however improbable that may be.

2x NQ as he took a medical RS last year.

You are more than illiterate today

Thing about Kysen and Broderson is that at the end of the day they get to live with the result of their careers. No reason to keep bashing on the kids. They are what they are at this point. Hopefully they help us later on in the tourney. Some of the criticisms seem personal, and both kids seem to be good citizens so no reason for that kind of thing.

First off I want to apologize about my earlier comment about Terukina and Broderson. Those guys are great people I’ve met them numerous times as we around the same age and Broderson is a phenomenal dad and Kysen is a great guy. The comment I made earlier about Kysen is what a typical Iowa retard would do and I don’t want to be that so I apologize. I’m just super passionate and seeing the ability Kysen has frustrated me because he’s beaten many good wrestlers. And Broderson Ik works his ass off and he is what he is. I hope Kysen proves my ass wrong so I will donate 10,000. I will donate something good no matter what happens because this program is taking a big step in the right direction. So to those I pissed off I'm sorry.

that is by far and away the hardest and most important role in his life
remember being a young dad (23) - working long hrs coming home so my wife could go to work and have to take care of my son
could not have imagined attempting to do anything else
Agree with this 100%.

Now for Real World 101... you don't get scholarships or varsity opportunities for being a great person. Sure, it's a requirement, but it's not the only thing that matters. At the end of the day people need to perform, too... and Dresser knows this.

I know quite a few people that are great people, great moms/dads, but needed let go because they were professionally unproductive. Most went on to more fitting roles and look back on being let go as a blessing.

To give ya'll my two cents you didn't necessarily ask for haha

Terukina - Ben and I have been very hard on Terukina on the pod. We are right there with everyone and their frustrations. I think that although we like and respect Terukina as an athlete and what he's done in the past for this team there is still a level/space of valid criticism. I hate when we police each other and say we aren't allowed to be harsh because said athlete is a good person. I like Terukina! I have always been one of his big fans. BUT, this season has been crap. He is better than this. I don't fully know what is going on from what we don't see and Dresser hasn't been afraid to call his lack of attention to details in the past. Now, recently Dresser has said there has been improvement and he knows Terukina is right there with figuring this hump out. I have high expectations of Terukina because I know he can be an AA. He should not be satisfied with what he's producing right now because he really is capable of more. I want him to succeed and at this point I have no idea what I expect from him in the post-season. After how he wrestled against UNI, I just don't know what he's going to do and I hope he proves many of us wrong and goes out there and produces results and gets team points but right now is not enough. It's just not. I think it's ok to feel that way about him and he should be aware that the fans feeling this about him is actually a good thing because it's us knowing he's capable of great things. I truly believed he was going to get to the podium before his injury and this season has slowly left a sour taste in my mouth. It's ok to want the team to do well and succeed. Just because they were bad at one point in time doesn't mean everyone has to be satisfied with bad results now. This team is a top 10 team. We should not have the same expectations once we did for them because they're better than that.

That's my rant haha

The simple fact is that they are the best we have at those weights this season. Yes, we all wish they would perform at an AA level, but that's not the case right now. It is on the staff to improve at each weight or get the current athletes to perform at the best of their abilities. I think we all have seen the potential in Kysen at times. Let's hope he can perform at his peak level when it matters most. Broderson hasn't shown that he can compete at an AA level and hasn't shown a lot of improvement year over year. However, if he works hard, is a good role model and member of the community, and is the best we have at the weight, I'll support him as our starter!

I'm making this happen BTW. Will have more updates soon :)
Uhm…
