Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Same reason TJ wanted to take over a 2-22 team. Iowa and Iowa State are better jobs, more opportunities, more money. Drake will probably go something like 26-8 this year and play in the NIT
Perhaps you are missing a few of the things that attracted TJ to the Iowa State job; namely his ties to the program and Ames and his wife's ties to Ames and Iowa State. TJ's situation in regards to Iowa State wasn't quite the same as most.

There are similarities. But it's not an apples to apples comparison. He's not a former player, he's an old-fashioned lifer and grinder.

He's just as much buddies with key players in the inner circle of Iowa State world, as much he is an employee of the University. Perhaps more so. His wife was mentioned also, who is a ISU hall of famer.

He would have got the job when Fred left if our joke of a president at the time didn't veto his hire for concerns that his popularity and connections basically amounted to something akin to nepotism. Lol. That's how deep the connection is.

He actually took a pay cut to take this job, and he remains one of the lowest, if not the lowest paid coach in the Big 12 (he was at one time but with conference expansion I'm not current with the #s)

Then why wasn’t Fran getting top recruits before NIL? I think that’s just a convenient excuse for Hok fans that all of their NIL money goes to football. Hok fans say that’s how we get good players is because we‘ e always paid them and we know that’s just not true

What good players are they bringing in in football?

Does Devries have strong ties to Iowa including being an assistant coach there?

Pretty sure TJ wanted the job in 2015 when things were going very well for ISU.

Not real strong ties. His brother played football there. I would bet that he grew up an Iowa fan living in Eastern Iowa.

Bucky fan is telling they are going after Otz this off season. I chuckled.

They’re all paranoid that any non Fran coach would be Lick when in reality over a 99% chance any hire would be better than Lick.
This 1000%. The Lickliteritis is real in IC and it’s laughable bc Fran is an inferior Hoiberg over there.

But it was always fools gold. They struck it fairly good with guys from Iowa or with direct ties to Iowa. None of that was because of Fran. And when push came to shove, those “good” teams folded like a chair every single time.
They haven’t had a guard worth a **** since Devyn Marble under Fran.

And he wasn’t even a point guard. I don’t think Iowa has had a “true” PG since Fran has been there. Not one that had potential to be elite. I don’t think Fran understands that guard play is how you make runs late in the season and in the tournament. You can’t win long term with 6’11” big white men anymore.

Didn’t say they were just that they say that’s where their NIL money goes. Doesn’t seem to help

It's actually all going to women's basketball because they have put that sport on the map and that's what important. Nobody moves the needle like iowa women's basketball.

Their last good PG was Andre Woolridge.
