Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Watching a little of this second half last night at the gym. The slowness and amount of space offensive players had was absolutely shocking. It did not look like the same division of basketball as ISU/KU or KSU/UH.

I was not impressed with Freeman vs. ISU, but he is pretty solid and will be good. He's dog crap on defense, but some of that is being a Fr. big, and some of that just comes with playing at Iowa I guess. Sandfort is a complete dork, but he can certainly score and is at least willing to try to rebound. Perkins is a whiny B, but he's a decent all-around guy.

But the rest of that roster - woof. I heard a bit yesterday on Ken Miller's show w/ Wade Lookingbill. It was strange to hear that people around the program and their view on the potential of some of these guys. When I watch guys like Dembele and Harding, I see guys that are at best guys that are a couple of years from being rotation-worthy guys in the Big 12, if ever. Not that they are terrible or can't get there, I just don't see it right now.

Kyle Green would have an aneurysm if you dropped any of those teams in his lap and asked him to fix it. It's just trash defense all the way around.

Freeman will probably always struggle to stay out of foul trouble.

As long as he stays at Iowa, Fran stays as the coach, and he continues to recruit the same marginally-athletic guards, I agree. Freeman will be in foul trouble trying to cover for his guards getting burned routinely.

Dickenson is a great player when the refs allow him to maul folks. He didn't have a foul until late in the second half. He is the master of the moving screen.

I'll give them early 90s too. There was a blip in '01/02 where they made the title game as a 5 seed.

Otherwise Indiana is Nebraska football. The glory years are long gone.
Way better positioned than Nubs FB. Plenty of talent around Indiana and B1G money available. Just need to hire the right coach.

They had Kelvin Sampson and were rocking, until they got caught cheating. Since then its been one bad hire after another. They're just a good hire away from owning the B1G again.

How do you come up with 6? I’d say 4 max. And only because MSU is supremely overvalued.

I won't be shocked if the B1G gets 8ish teams in because of 'prestige' but don't ask me which ones or how.

Pretty soon here the Any Katz's of the world are going to start spouting off their annual nonsense and somehow will woo the committee. Then the B1G teams are mostly done by the first weekend, and they pull out the 'beat up on one another' to justify it.

Rinse and repeat.

That can be fun though. We win either way.

I was watching part of the game with couple buddies who are Iowa fans and they were pretty high on Harding. I just don't get it. A 5' 11", unathletic PG who can't shoot. What am I missing here?

I would also agree on Dembele. He is one of many Fran recruits that will be here a few years, never develop and transfer out.

Yeah you still need 68 teams, the ACC is also garbage, then throw in stuff like the MVC looking like a one bid conference again. But 8 isn’t happening I don’t think.

The Ogundele route?

Hawk fan friends keep telling me he's a better Bowen Born.

The problem with that is that he isn't the shooter and ballhandler that Born is, he doesn't have the outstanding lateral quickness that Born has and doesn't seem have anywhere near the basketball instincts Born has.

I don't get it either.

Andy Katz is a giant disappointment. He was really good when he worked at ESPN but as soon as he changed jobs and started working for the Big 10 and NCAA he became such a shill.

Iowa is 0-6 in Quad 1 and has 2 Q3 losses. I will be shocked if they even make the NIT.

Iowa is pretty much an NIT lock under the new rules. The top 2 teams based on NET rankings from each power conference get NIT bids regardless of win-loss record. So Iowa (#60) would have to get passed up by Ohio State (#73) and Maryland (#81). Or Nebraska (#58) and/or Northwestern (#59) would have to somehow finish with a higher NET than Iowa but not make the tourney.
