49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

I will be cheering for the Lions only because of their lifelong misery as a franchise.... but if the 49ers do win... I hope that Purdy just goes off and has an amazing day just to shut up all the national media.

Cowherd this morning said he watched 8 NFL QB's this weekend, and said Purdy was the 8th best one.
Hmm, if we’re going off performance this week alone, he might be right. I think he was better than Love by quite a bit this weekend though.

Plus, Love sat behind Aaron Rodgers for 3 years learning the ropes. The media acts like a magic stork dropped him off in Green Bay 6 weeks ago and now he’s playing great as the second coming.
It’s funny, but the sports media so badly wants Love to be amazing cause they liked to rip Rodgers.

Seeing the stats of Purdy and Love on Saturday, there was pretty much nothing Love did better. Plus Purdy lifted his team in the 4th quarter, and Love was a total disaster.

5th best at worst. He outplayed Love, Stroud, and Mayfield for certain and was at least in the neighborhood of Josh Allen and Jared Goff. The only elite performances of the weekend were Jackson and Mahomes.

Lions will need to get pressure on Purdy.

Issue there, Purdy will just check it down in those situations.

Lions brought a few blitzes from corners that Mayfield didn't see.

Do keep in mind that Aiden Hutchinson will be lining up against the 49ers RT (the side of the OL that constantly gives them the most problems and let by the defender that got Purdy injured last year)… and Hutchinson has already been in every QB’s face the last several weeks. He can and will be a problem for the 49ers on Sunday.

And yes, nobody’s going to argue that the Lions’ secondary isn’t an issue, and even in the playoffs they’ve given up yards. And yet they’ve also come up big for the Lions when it matters, keeping the Rams 0-3 in the red zone, and largely shutting down the Bucs in the 4th Q.

The point is yes, the Niners have a huge advantage over the Lions’ D, but don’t assume the game is won because of that, especially when the Niners have had their own defensive issues this season - and that’s with more talent on defense.

You can def run on the Niners. That fits right in with what the Lions want to do.

I don’t think he was in the neighborhood of Allen. Allen was keeping Buffalo in the game with his legs big time. Plus he had some big passes that were dropped by Diggs and got no help from his D (or kicker for that matter)

Is QBR a good measure of a QB's performance (I do not know how the details, the nuances, of how the ratings are compiled)?

Purdy's QBR was 14 points higher than Love's. Does this not say something important?

Note: Saw this on tv screen shortly after game ended. Maybe the QBR has been re-calculated and now matches your figures, cyclonespiker33?
Eh, the difference in QBR doesn't mean much to me. The 9ers defense intercepted Loves mistakes and Greenbay didn't on Purdy's mistakes. I would say numbers wise they both played pretty similar games, and neither one lit the world on fire through most of the game. The main difference are the final drives. Purdy orchestrated a great drive to win the game and Love made the worst throw of the game when he had his opportunity.

Here is another example of how pathetic the media is. I heard them talking this morning about how “If Brock would have thrown interceptions (something he didn’t do, but he had a couple almost INT), then they would have lost.

but why wouldn’t the media say “because Jordan Love actually did throw 2 INTs, the Packers lost”

so instead of blaming Jordan Love for what actually did happen, they’re trying to blame Brock for what “should have“ happened, but never did happen.

also, they try to excuse Jordan love because he’s so young, but Brock is one year younger.

This will be an unpopular take but up until the last 6:00 minutes but using game flow and my eyes I would say Love played better than Brock. The last 6 minutes were absolutely nails and Love crumbled when it counted and Brock excelled but Brock did not play well for majority of the game and that’s ok. Survive and advance.

I agree, but with the caveat that BP is a huge anticipation thrower.

A lot of incompletions look worse than they actually are for Brock when the conditions are bad. So… sometimes, it’s a wet ball and he just doesn’t throw it that well. Sometimes, a receiver is slow on their route or gets bumped and it looks like BP throws it to nobody.

Brock played just “okay” for most of the game and then turned it up on that last drive. Love played pretty well for most of the game and then threw a really bad pick at the end.

Add another one - Kole Musgrove - to those whose stomach turns at the thought the 49ers with Purdy might achieve something, and bashing Richard Sherman at the same time.

This dork's feelings are hurt that Richard Sherman isn't more loyal to the Seahawks. Kole definitely knows his football

I think part of the reason Love looked better is the Packers dominated time of possession and the 9ers had that really bad PI on 3rd and long that setup the TD. Plus Purdy had a couple really bad misses. Stats wise they were pretty dang close though through 3 quarters. And Purdy definitely won the 4th.

One other thing about Brock is because of the way he plays the game he's only going to get better with more experience. He's only really in his second year as a starter so I could still see growth out of him on the cerebral side of the game which is where his strength is.

Since NFL games are 60 minutes long, not 54, your point seems irrelevant.

Who is going to hate that? It’s true.

No one is saying that he was elite all game. Everyone is saying that it is not indicative of his overall season or his future.

It was an average game. He’s been well above average for 12 games this year. No reason to assume he’s never going to be good again.

Felt like SF made some adjustments in the second half that gave him some trouble. Lot fewer wide open receivers running around.

All the HOT TAKES and on Twitter people are talking about it like we LOST. Rather than a game winning drive and a WIN. His overall stats aren't that bad. He made the game winning drive. Come from behind, without Deebo, in the rain and win. That's what they have been asking him to do. Still not good enough. You would think it's a loss instead of a win if you pay attention to the shows and internet.

Brock just can't win no matter what he does. Even winning and advancing in the playoffs. Still a loss.

:nausea::rolleyes:
Agree. I'm a packers fan. I don't understand how they constantly berate a 2nd year young player. Had a bad game, oh it's horrible what this game manager did he sucks (clearly isn't allowed to have a bad game). Mahomes or Allen has a bad game, oh they're just having a bad game. He literally gets evaluated like a 5th year player who was drafted in the 1st round. Instead is a 2nd year player drafted in the 7th. I don't know what Purdy has to do in order to garner some people's even minor positive praise or acknowledgement. Love, at a year older, gets different praise even.

By the way, it's been notated on X, Once Zach Tom was asked to be taken out by the NFL to be evaluated, the last 4 possessions GB had were trash. That offensive lineman had an effect on the game, with helping against Bosa.

Jordan Love 0-3 in his first 3 red zone appearances. One turnover and two field goals. tsk tsk can’t do that in the playoffs Jordan.

IMO it was less about Brock’s play and the absolutely atrocious play of 49ers secondary. PI’s constantly bailing out the Packers. And completely blown coverages. Once the 49ers quit doing that crap is when Love completely caved and lost the game.

Yeah, not an expert, but think they changed from primary man to primary zone which tightened the secondary.
