NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

Just a great team win by the Chiefs, this time of year we need Mahomes to be Mahomes, which he was tonight, we can beat Baltimore if the Mahomes tonight shows up next Sunday. Six straight AFC championship games, I told my two sons tonight after the win to enjoy this feeling, because most teams will never get to where we are.

The storyline in this should be how bad the Chiefs staff outcoached the Bills staff. I get why this stung extra bad for their fans. When they went for it on that fake punt they really just waved the white flag and said we can't stop them.

Lamar has only ever won 2 playoff games. If we can force him to have to throw, I like our chances
I thought the fact he had only won two playoff games, plus the fact that he had had nearly 3 weeks rest, would play into the game Saturday. That second half, the Ravens were on a whole other level. Mahomes has the experience, but it will be a tough game for sure.

They have been the best team league the second half of the year

I'll be rooting for the Chiefs just because I think the 49ers can handle them better than the Ravens. Purdy for SB MVP!

Glad the Hardman fumble into the endzone didn't wind up costing them the game. When that happened I said it then that I hope that didn't come back to bite them as a TD on that drive puts them up 10.

Lesson is to never underestimate Mahomes in the playoffs. Other than struggling to stop the run they mentioned in the post game the Chiefs didn't give up a single play of 20+ yards which was impressive. Going to be some tough decisions in the offseason on how to keep the defense intact. There are multiple key players due for bigger contracts that the Chiefs can't afford to keep them all:

Chris Jones
Willie Gay
Mike Edwards
L'Jarius Sneed
Derrick Nnadi
Mike Danna

Probably a forgone conclusion Jones won't be back I think. If you have to use the franchise tag Sneed may be the 1 you use it on as he's been a lockdown CB this season. If you lose Jones you almost have to bring back Nnadi I think.

Not only did they not give up any big plays, KC had 7 20+ yard plays. We haven't seen that in a while.

Going to be hard to keep the defense intact, but it's always an every evolving thing. Hopefully they can find some interior D-line in the draft because I think Jones is gone. I think Nnadi and Danna can be had at a reasonable cost. Not sure Edwards will command super big money as he's kinda an NFL middle class-type guy. Getting Bryan Cook back will make that decision easier. And don't forget Drue Tranquil. Heck of a one year deal there. Would love to see him for a couple more years.

Sneed and Gay are the biggest challenges. No idea how these shake out. Sneed, despite not getting All-Pro or a Pro Bowl nod, is absolutely one of the best corners in the game. Does feel like he has constant nagging injuries, but rarely is he not balling out every game. Gay is going to want pay for sure.

Gay is for sure gone IMO.
Probably tag & trade Jones.
Torn on Sneed. Great individual year but that room is so deep and has Naz Johnson that hasn't played all year as well.
Assume bring back either Jones or Sneed, not sure which one.
Edwards will be cheap resign or replaced elsewhere.
Danna probably replaced by FAU.

Probably lose a bit on defense and spend some money to add some firepower on offense during the offseason.

Gay pretty much tweeted that this is his last year. Things could change, but it would make sense.

Sneed is priority 1. If you can somehow make a deal work with CJ, you gotta do it. Danna and Edwards have been solid so if they take team friendly deals, you try to make them work.
