I actually was too...He's been bitter since NIL stuff, he liked it better when they paid players under the table.

That answers my question---I was wondering if they had an internal candidate.
I'd be very leery of taking that job. I'd much rather be the guy that replaces the guy that replaced Saben than the guy that replaces Sabin.
If I'm Bama I take a swing at Kirby Smart, he was DC there from 2008-15. If he's not interested then they should look at Lanning. He was only at Bama a year, but at 37 he's done a solid job as Georgia DC and his year at Oregon.
I would think Nick Saban would have a lot input with AD as a who's who of hot coaches have been at Bama the last decade: Smart, Lanning, Sarkisian and Kiffin.
James Franklin?
Same situation many yrs ago when Bear Bryant retired.
What makes Franklin a winning hire? Seriously. Not that he's a bad coach, but what's he done to earn the gig? Dabo has a national title. Some of the other guys are young climbers who have massive upside. Franklin would be about as 'meh' as it gets for a program like Bama.My money is on Norvell or Franklin. Lanning etc. won't take the job. Alabama is not an elite job in the SEC once you remove the Saban of it all. Its recruiting ground and NIL capacity are worse than at least five conference opponents.
Norvell might want to GTFO of the ACC as it is. And Franklin may understand his days are numbered at PSU if he can never beat OSU or Michigan.
Penn St would be happy to see him goWhat makes Franklin a winning hire? Seriously. Not that he's a bad coach, but what's he done to earn the gig? Dabo has national titles. I am guessing low but man, I would love to see that and watch steer tears. What are the chances of Sark going to Bama?
The Bama fanbase and boosters are going to have to adjust their expectations. It's unlikely anyone matches Saban's run, mostly because nobody really did what he did before and none of it's getting any easier. Between super conferences, 12-team playoffs, NIL, transfer rules, and a whole lot of programs having a whole lot of money to throw around at coaches, none of it's going to get any easier.I agree. I don't think Franklin is a great hire for Bama. I'm just skeptical that they will get their Plan A or B (or even C or D). It's hard to think of a place where the expectations will be more out of whack with the tools moving forward. The fanbase will expect Saban levels of success while Alabama in a vacuum (without the GOAT head coach) is not a top 10 job nationally and perhaps not a top 5 job in the SEC.
