Alabama, MIchigan, Texas, Ohio State, Georgia and the rest get into bidding wars. That is a fact. I am not saying we should be in bidding wars against those schools. Those schools are head and shoulders above everyone in terms of money. We should be letting recruits know that we can compete money wise with Missouri, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and those type of teams. It should be stressed to recruits that if they come to Iowa State they will be getting some NIL and how much they can expect. A kid bringing up NIL these days is no different than an NFL or NBA team offering players a certain amount of money to play for them. That does not mean they are bad team guys or they are not "There for themselves". Just means they are looking out for what they can get. Just like any job anywhere in America. Which is what college sports has become, a job.
I don’t think you know the landscape of college athletics as well as you think you might. Yes any athlete who’s playing wants to make money off of their NIL. It’s way more common than I think you think it is, that a guy wants to play over chasing a bag. Solid culture, putting guys into the NFL, getting your degree, playing in a P5(4?), and competing for championships all still matter to college athletes, and more times than not, more than chasing a bag (look at TJ Tampa)

I think I know it way better than you would know. I know actual players that are related to me. I know how the recruiting in basketball works 100 percent because I have handled recruiting for a relative. Sorry but that’s true

Of course they got paid. That’s my whole point. You saying we are not telling them NIL stuff up front on the visit is crazy. If we won’t tell a recruit and Kansas tells him they will get them 50k, of course they will go to Kansas
I think you’re missing what I’m saying. If a guys main focus when choosing a school is getting paid, both coaching staffs are telling those guys to look elsewhere cuz this ain’t it for them. I’m not saying NIL doesn’t get brought up, but if a recruit is coming in and saying “I want $X amount from you” and is disregarding the other great things that come along with playing for Iowa State, then the coaches don’t want those type of character guys in the locker room

Laugh all u want at my post but I have several people who can back me up on my statement.

I'm not sure EhJeff was saying this. Your argument will work better when you don't put words in peoples' mouths.

Just sayin

Here is his exact quote

This is mostly true for football, not necessarily for basketball though. However for both sports, if a recruit brings up NIL or makes that a point of emphasis during their recruitment, both coaching staffs will more or less tell them they’re not a fit for the program.

If a recruit brings up NIL in a recruiting trip, both coaching staffs will tell them they are not a fit???? Seriously every single recruit these days need to know about what a school can offer for NIL and if our coaches are telling them they are not a fit because of that?? That’s crazy and I didn’t put words in anyone’s mouth. Every school has a recruiting package and NIL is definitely talked about to all them

I never said NIL isn’t talked about. I said if a recruit is making NIL a point of emphasis, these coaches are telling the recruit to move on. They are not a fit for either teams culture.

NIL is there for both programs, yes, obviously, but more times than not, our football and basketball programs are looking for guys who are wanting to jump up a level in completion and/or are at a high level and want a second chance, and are more interested in actually playing than chasing a bag.

Why is that so hard to believe? They don’t recruit kids based on how much $$$ they can give them. Yes, KU does. You seen how many transfers they’ve had the last few years? Assuming a kid goes to KU just based on money is crazy.

There is a CW pod with one of the assistant coaches from last year. I encourage you to listen to it because CW asks Coach point blank about what they do if a recruit starts asking about NIL. They immediately change priorities on the kid. I believe that CMC has the same philosophies

Just very strange we are the only team in the country doing it.
