Transfer Portal Tracker

They’ll say it wasn’t good enough and we could have had moss if we weren’t paying our coach 4 million dollars. Literally one brain cell exists between all these rot folks, and I swear that they all share it
Why drag this into every football thread? Isn't it bad enough that we had two ROT threads? Let's draw attention to negativity in the event any of the recruits or family members take a cursory look at the football board...

This is mostly true for football, not necessarily for basketball though. However for both sports, if a recruit brings up NIL or makes that a point of emphasis during their recruitment, both coaching staffs will more or less tell them they’re not a fit for the program.

I think what we’re seeing with football (and to an extent basketball as well) is guys who aren’t hunting for a bag but want a chance to play in a major conference because they either haven’t gotten their opportunity yet or are wanting a fresh start and a second chance

Which in football means we get the left overs as transfers.

BTW I don't believe this for one second. Every single recruit now knows that NIL is part of the deal and the coaches do as well. I know a few basketball recruits who were transfers and even at the mid majors the coaches bring it up pretty quickly on how their NIL deals work and what they can expect. Just read an aritcle from the top high school players in the country and every single one of them knows the NIL deal before they commit to a school. Some say they will leave some money on the table if the fit is right. However, I am not going to pretend that we are such a good program or our coaches are so clean we don't talk NIL deals as part of the pitch to have them come here when they are on campus. If we are not talking NIL deals to recruits, the coaches are not doing their jobs right. TJ can recruit, but he needs to be able to pitch NIL also. Its why we are killing it in basketball recruiting. He can do both.

If you think Campbell is going to actively recruit a kid that comes in and says "I need $XX NIL money to come to ISU because so and so is offering me $VV" then you really haven't been paying attention to anything.

It's a major red flag that they are in it for themselves and not the team.

If that makes you sleep better at night, fine. That is not the reality of college sports these days.

That's the reality for programs that are not going to try to outbid other programs for their players. Sure, a lot of programs are doing that, but not all. It remains to be seen if this will create a much greater separation than already existed, but early returns suggest that it won't.

Alabama, MIchigan, Texas, Ohio State, Georgia and the rest get into bidding wars. That is a fact. I am not saying we should be in bidding wars against those schools. Those schools are head and shoulders above everyone in terms of money. We should be letting recruits know that we can compete money wise with Missouri, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and those type of teams. It should be stressed to recruits that if they come to Iowa State they will be getting some NIL and how much they can expect. A kid bringing up NIL these days is no different than an NFL or NBA team offering players a certain amount of money to play for them. That does not mean they are bad team guys or they are not "There for themselves". Just means they are looking out for what they can get. Just like any job anywhere in America. Which is what college sports has become, a job.

I agree with you that we need to be able to do that, but we'll never have that money, especially since the teams you listed are Big "Ten" and SEC teams.

Hemlock.

Too soon?
Definitely not. No, not too soon. I don't think. LOL

Got me to thinking, is it Queen Anne’s lace or poisonous Hemlock?

And why would you want to squeeze a drink/juice from the hemlock? Oh lets have some of this on hand, just in case anyone want to commit suicide.

That is an EXTREMELY optimistic opinion. Those programs are already telling their donor bases to pour money into NIL instead of the AD because they AD will be fully funded purely via TV contracts. We don't have that luxury.

That said, I do agree with you that recruits/transfers we're in on have a very good idea what we can offer, but if they walk in and immediately start asking about how much NIL they can grab, they're going to be off our board.

Honestly, I think we are competing one level down further. On our level, we provide NIL opportunities for our players (once on the team), but aren't going to be bidding for incoming players unless something changes substantially in the WE WILL donations

So you are saying mid majors in basketball can do it but Iowa state can’t? Because I know for a fact they do

Depends on if they have a football team to field as well.

Honestly, it’s more about your fan base and alumni pockets than p4 or conference status.

We have made progress. I am not seeing lengthy postings anymore about "why I am not going to give." Wow.

That's OK, it happens. If drink opens up the thought process some, so be it.

Your candor is OK by me. Socrates made you do it. I wonder what he was drinking or smoking with some of the philosophy he came up with.

And no, I don't want to study that stuff any more. At least not right now.

Well, not hemlock, until later anyway. ; - )

The #1 reason we moved on from Darrion Williams in basketball is because he was more worried about getting paid than he was anything else

All of the basketball guys got paid to come here, but it wasn’t *the reason* they came here

Of course they got paid. That’s my whole point. You saying we are not telling them NIL stuff up front on the visit is crazy. If we won’t tell a recruit and Kansas tells him they will get them 50k, of course they will go to Kansas
