I don't "dumb" or "laugh" at people's posts anymore - it's childish and I'm ashamed I ever did it.Comparing this women's college basketball player to Pete Maravich is brutally offensive to the greatness that was Maravich. Find video on YT of Pete and what he could do and it's a walnuts to watermelons comparison, at best.
I don't need to go to YT to learn about Pete Maravich, as I'm old enough to have seen him in person, read articles about him in Sports Illustrated and Sporting News, etc. LSU hired Pete's father, Press, as head coach, then fired him as soon as Pete left Baton Rouge. Press wanted Pete to take 40 shots per game and he did. He scored points in droves and threw ridiculous precision passes, many with an unnecessary degree of difficulty. He was a showman, but LSU had a record of 49-35 during his three years on varsity, never won a conference title and never appeared in the NCAA tournament. That doesn't diminish his greatness - he was the best show in town and was drafted #3 overall in the NBA Draft, where he continued to entertain.
You wouldn't know this because you've not seen it on YT, but Pete wasn't universally beloved in either college or the NBA - lots of the "old guard" didn't feel he "played the game properly".
I've lived in Iowa City since 1998 and I hate EIU as much today as I did when we moved in. My oldest son played club baseball with Kirk Ferentz' youngest son - I know KF and I still want EIU to lose every game. Having established I am not a closet hawk fan, I'm amazed at people like you who can't acknowledge CC's greatness. She is doing similar things on a women's court to what Maravich did on the men's court fifty years ago, shooting frequently from ridiculous spots, scoring bushels of points and throwing outrageously good passes. The only difference is she wins big, which Pete never did, either in college or NBA.
That doesn't mean I like her, condone her petulant behavior or see her as a role model. It just means I acknowledge her transcendent talent and I'm disgusted it's on display for our hated cross-state rivals. Everything else is superfluous - the young lady can hoop and I have no doubt she'll be successful in the WNBA, not that I'll be watching.
