Time for a Real Discussion About Caitlin Clark

I think it’s the part where Cyclone fans feel the need to scold other Cyclone fans (and regurgitate crazy exaggerated unquantifiable claims, etc) for not actively and publicly rooting for or caring to constantly discuss/review/advocate for a rival athlete or athletic program…
The usual Hawk trolls and a few “Cyclone” fans seem to believe this site is Caitlin Clark fanatic.

Down here (Texas) I can assure everyone nobody has ever heard of her.
I doubt that. I live in IC and have a friend who works in the EIU President’s office, arranging special events. Presidential candidates want to attend EIU women’s basketball games, most recently Nicky Haley. She’s a legitimate celebrity. Sue Bird, possibly the greatest WBB player ever, has attended CC’s games.

I don’t care for her antics, but the young lady can hoop. My comparison for her has long been Pete Maravich, incredibly talented but more interested in personal stats than anything else.

Pete liked to entertain the fans and wasn't a doosh canoe on display.

She can play but her antics are not entertaining.

She's elevated women's basketball more than any one woman has possibly ever. Regardless of how it ends up for her she has had a remarkable amateur career. She's seems to be a good person too. I don't get why/how some in our fanbase get so mad because she's popular. Of all the things in the world to get worked up over.
That’s the point, though. Because she has helped elevate the women’s basketball game, a lot of children are watching her. But her on court antics are showing these children that it’s ok to whine and complain to officials. Or that you can pout when things don’t go your way… just her on court behavior in general.

She very well may be a great person off the court. But most people will never see that side; they can only see the behavior when cameras are on her, which is during games. And her behavior on the court isn’t one that I would want any child to emulate.

You tried to yell me good players that have killer instinct don't whine about calls. I'm telling you every good player complains. Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, etc... nice comeback. "Id takes Joens because she's nicer" lmao. I'd rather win.
So has Keith Murphy taken over your account? You are really white knighting for CC.

Never seen fans with a larger chip.on their shoulder than our fans. Everything from the refs to the media is some giant conspiracy to hurt ISU. The MAGA of college sports. Thank god college sports sucks nowadays and I only watch pro.

Seeing you in game posts and other threads, you don't have a chip on your shoulder, you have a steaming pile of cow dung. Not sure why you seem to take joy out of most things negative ISU.

Because I'm not a moron who thinks everyone or everything is part of a larger plot to hurt ISU athletics.

Juuuuuust a bit of hyperbole there.
It seems a bit of a stretch to assume that people think Clark is hurting ISU athletics, when what they're complaining about (for the most part) is her on court demeanor and the non-stop media attention.

The butthurt over her hype is what I'm talking about.
I think your choice of descriptor is an exaggeration for most of us.

I DO feel that most people see her on court attitude more than her off court deeds, and the way she behaves on court makes her unpleasant to watch, and is poor role modeling. I also think local media has latched on to her and built her up on a pedestal. She's a gifted basketball player, for sure. But she's entitled, whiny and pouty on the court.

Nikki was looking for Caitlin Collins.:p

Comparing this women's college basketball player to Pete Maravich is brutally offensive to the greatness that was Maravich. Find video on YT of Pete and what he could do and it's a walnuts to watermelons comparison, at best.

Haley didn’t even know her name haha.

Sue Bird, now she could play.

I'd be willing to bet the mindset of a player at the caliber of CC is that if my shot hasn't been falling, I'm going to get it turned around and start hitting if I keep shooting.
"Keep shooting" would suggest shooting at your normal clip to get out of the slump not increasing your volume.

Just for the record, I coach my daughter's 8th grade team and my son's 5th grade team. Caitlin has been around for 4 years now, and I can tell you I see infinitely more showboating, taunting, complaining, whining, etc. in the boys game than the girls. In fact, I can't think of a single occasion during any of my daughter's games of a girl trying to show up a ref, embellish fouls, etc. I can think of a good half dozen occasions of this happening at my son's games yesterday alone.

Thinking she's creating some legion of whiny girls basketball players is just silly and untrue. And if you are that worried about it, maybe shift your focus to the men's game/NBA because they truly are often setting a bad example for young basketball players. Makes me wonder if some of this vitriol towards Caitlin's "antics" isn't a bit sexist in nature...

I think Tyrese Halliburton is a fine role model
