NFL: ***2023 San Francisco 49ers***

He will get Super Bowl MVP this year. Then a League MVP a different year. That's my current plan for Brock_STAR.

:)
I’m worried about the 49ers defense to win a Super Bowl. When the Niners get a big lead and the other teams get one dimensional, the 9ers D looks great because of their pass rush.

But the secondary is a definite weakness, especially without Hufanga. And I’ve been concerned with the LB crew recently too. They can’t stop the run (even today Washington’s RBs averaged almost 5 yards per carry) and Warner looks a step slow.

Sorry to bring some hand-wringing after locking up the number one seed.

If Jackson is voted MVP, he will be one the worst QBs (statistically speaking) to have ever won the award. I realize that statistics aren't everything, but they are incredibly important. To give the MVP to a player who ranks so low statistically takes away the credibility of the award. Just my opinion.
If the award had any credibility to start with, then non-QBs would win it more. Look, it was fun to think about Purdy being mvp, but that went out the window Christmas night. You don’t have a 4 pick game that late in the season and get mvp.

their defense is the MVP of that team. i dont understand why this isnt held against him the same way CMC and the talented 49ers are held against brock.

IMO he is a slightly better version of justin fields. he has less happy feet in the pocket and a little more situational awareness, but mostly he has a top 3 defense. SFs defense in comparison, however highly thought of they are, is top 10 at best.

You can definitely run the ball against San Fran. They need to find a FA LB or hit in the draft at LB. And probably a Safety.

It’s a frickin’ joke what the national media has done to Brock Purdy.

The fact these ‘analysts’ or ‘experts’ refuse to give him any acknowledgement or credit for what he’s doing just shows how little they know.

Every single successful QB in the history of football has been surrounded by great talent. Was Joe Montana looked at like a game manager? He had Rice, Taylor, Clark, and Roger Craig…. plus the best OL in the league. Oh…. and btw…. Purdy just set the all time record for passing yards in a 49er season…. more than Montana ever had.

If you're paying attention you'll notice that the questioning of BP's play has dropped off completely ever since Cam Newton came out and made a fool of himself. Even after the awful Baltimore game, the only time you hear "system QB" now is from people mocking the idea after Brock makes a spectacular play.

I know we all have Purdy's back here, but it's ok to let this one go now.

I think it has a lot more to do with ISU than where he was drafted. Media snobbery can’t fathom a great QB coming from a lesser school.

They have a lot of players injured. In particular Arik Armstead the Pro Bowl player. Who is their best DT run clogger and stopper. They have a depleted defensive line in particular at some spots. Warner is still phenomenal. When they are injured he sometimes tries to do too much and do it all. This can lead to some bad plays. The good news is they have been resting guys. Including Armstead. Who will now have 3 more weeks off (next weeks last game and 2 more weeks with the bye week). So he will play in the playoffs. That's a different run defense with him in by a long shot. He's the most important run stopping defensive linemen for sure on this team.

They signed Logan Ryan who is a veteran guy at Safety to help at Safety. He played with the Patriots previously. He's a smart, experienced Safety who has played pretty well so far.

They should be fine. Actually with a full deck and healthy they were phenomenal against the run and pass all year long. It's only injuries and the wear of the season that took them down. Now they have a lot of time off since everything is locked up. Should be back to usual in the playoffs. Which was very good.

They also tend to be a bend but don't break defense. Give up lots of yards sometimes. But tighten up in the redzone like at the 10 yard line. Hold you to FG's instead of TD's which can sometimes be the difference in the game.

Well, sure, but Montana played 16 game seasons while Brock set the record in 16 games. Surely you can see the difference.

I don’t know that I agree with this. There have been a lot of good QBs that went to non blue bloods. Favre went to southern miss for example. I think it’s way more about where he was drafted.

Josh Allen was a Wyoming product
Mahomes - Tech is a good program but not a blue blood
Rodgers - wouldn’t consider Cal a blue blood either
Roethlisberger went to Miami Ohio (!)

If anything it seems like the blue blood QBs are the ones that flame out quicker, for whatever reason

Lotta yapping on 49er sites, re: benching starters this coming Sunday.
Most poster's tend to agree.

I have no idea. Thoughts welcomed.

Yeah they have to bench some starters and banged up guys. There is ZERO to gain. The #1 seed is already locked up. That said a NFL roster is 53 people. I believe 48 active game day roster. So it's not like the 90+ College Football roster. In other words you will have to play some players. In order to fill out a roster for the last game. You can't even play the game without some of them playing. NFL rosters are lite that way.

So we just have to get out as healthy as possible. Your top 10 or so guys on offense and defense you sit as much as you can. But some have to play to complete the last game.

They really have nothing to gain. I’d be surprised if Purdy played. Or Williams or CMC. Or their DTs.
The counter reply. Something resembling, "rust," etc, etc, etc... sets in.
Maybe, in pre-season fashion? A quarter or so of starter playing time?
