Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

What is the beef between Fran and Gary Dolphin?

Long story. One time Dolph was caught with a hot mic making fun of Iowa's recruiting, specifically Maishe Dailey. There was also allegedly some beef due to Dolph giving his kid tickets to a Wisconsin game. Evidently he brought some Wisconsin fans with him and those seats are near Margaret. That didn't go well.

Why do I have a feeling that in 20 years people are going to be talking about Connor and Caitlin in much the same way we are talking about Fran and Margaret
How many holes in the sheetrock in their house will there be in just a few short months after their honeymoon? Imagine the language their kids will bring to Kindergarden class.

If Franny leaves Iowa ******, I think he is already scoping out his next gig. Oak Hills Christian College in MN. They just lost to NDSU 108-14, but that gives Fran the perfect setup to clamp the full court press on at the end of the game to really tighten up the score. Plus the team already looks like his recruits.

108-14? With that hole they appear to be in Fran could claim that he is still getting out of the hole Coach (insert name her) left for him for a good 25 years.

The last team I remember that truly meets this requirement is Arkansas with the Big Nasty Corliss Williamson. They almost won two in a row! Their guards were three guys I've never heard of (Alex Dillard, Corey Beck, Clint McDaniel).

That Okafor UConn team had Ben Gordon who was their leading scorer and arguably their best player.
Beck was a pretty good big guard back in the day. Dilliard was a bench player that had amazing range. First guy I can think of that would shoot it from damn near half court.

On the subject, I'm impressed by how quickly the narrative changed when it comes to CMac. If you go to Hawkeye boards, you'll see posts talking about how having him on this year's roster would make such a huge difference. This is a guy who averaged 6/3/3 per game on 35% shooting. Would he run the point better than Dix? Sure. But it hasn't been that long since those fans were furious about how he was only getting his minutes due to nepotism.

I wouldn't even characterize it as making fun of. The opponent's guard was driving at will on Iowa's ole defense and during the timeout, thinking the mic was off, he said something like these guys have a guy like that and all we get is a guy who drives into double teams with his head down - which was technically correct. Not a glowing comment but not trying to overtly make fun of him.

Guy I know, who’s a varsity coach in Iowa, was telling me yesterday that he’s been to multiple Iowa practices. He’s a hawk fan. Said they spend very very little time on defense and it makes no sense and Fran will never change.
Very disappointing to hear after the guys spent so much time in the offseason trying to get back to defensive basics.

To their credit, the Iowa players themselves recognized their lack of athleticism. So, they decided they would find local pickup games against athletes more their speed.

By doing this, they hoped they could work on the fundamentals of moving their feet and trying to stay in front of people.

Results were mixed, but by all accounts they DID battle.. here are some photos the local media was there to capture:

Poverty program.

Like standing starving in a food line and they hand you a pie plate with four dry beans on it, and the guy behind you says, "I got three red beans, you only got one."

It can be a fun style to watch but man you're really counting on offense firing on all cylinders every night. Look at Hoiball. Largely a success....very exciting games but the nights we couldn't shoot or finish at the rim were a disaster.

Hoiball could score in bunches quickly but had plenty of droughts and at times didn't exactly have a lot of flow. There's a retroactive mystique about it from some that it was this high flying Dipsy Doo Dunkaroo Slamma Jamma all the time but if you go back and watch it wasn't really like that.

Prime example: in the amazing '14 Big 12 Tourney Championship Game ISU had 1 point until about the 12:30 mark of the first half. Baylor wasn't much better thankfully.

Dix wouldn't start at UNI or Drake or about 7 other Valley schools but he's starting at Iowa and that's all you need to know about where Francis has that program in year 14 or whatever it is.

They miss someone who would have the 'competitiveness' to go after opposing teams' coaches and start a bunch of **** to distract from the game.

Iirc he could defend an area pretty well but then really couldn't on ball.

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man (or point guard) is King.

Playing the Big Ten champion an hour from their campus being a "good draw" has to be one of the most flawed Hok arguments of all time

I think they were also complaining that we got the Friday evening slot while they were midday Thursday. But that’s up to the networks not the committee, and it’s a bigger deal for the fans

Love it or hate it. ISU holds serve, and their trajectory is firmly in top 4 seed territory with a chance for location priority.
I’d be cool with making the tourney as long as we aren’t on the 8/9 seed line. Big 12 schedule is brutal and I’m not sold on this team being top 16 good at this point.

Looks like 4 round of 32 appearances. The rest round of 64 or play in game losses.

Hok fan did claim the NIT was for a natty so maybe they’ll count that

Meanwhile the Hoiberg/Prohm/Otz trifecta achieved 9 NCAA wins in that same timeframe.
Don’t forget that they were down by double digits at half in all of his 2nd round games.
