I don't know that there is a great comp for Gilbert. He's not really a PG for one, and his first step quickness and ability to blow by a defender is not like anything another ISU PG or combo guard has had in a long time.
That's one thing about the ESPN tourney that I think people need to accept is that Gilbert got out of control a lot, and it wasn't a good tournament for him overall. But he has an ability to get to the rim and either finish or get to the line that instantly makes this ISU offense the best TJ has had by a mile. We've got to ride that and let him start figuring out when to pick his spots, when to kick, when to dish, etc.
The other thing that jumped out is that even though Iowa is slow and sucks defensively, that zone press has given a lot of good teams fits. This ISU team can put a lineup out there that you just aren't going to press. A lineup of Lipsey, Gilbert and either Pavs or C. Jones is going to destroy a press and get scoring opportunities off of it, particularly Gilbert. They don't just handle the press, they make you pay for pressing. Lipsey and Gilbert are elite press-breakers, and Pavs and C. Jones are very good, particularly when they go small and they are the 3rd guard.
