Florida State beat LSU at Camping World Stadium pretty badly. Texas beat Alabama at Tuscaloosa in dominating fashion. SEC lost games. Absolutely BS to have any SEC teams in the CFP. Gotta win the head to head games. And they only play 8 conference games. You should not be rewarded for that.

I don't disagree, but there are a few factors that the committee in theory can point to.

1) The NCAA suspended LSU's best defensive player leading into the game with Florida State. Or was it players? I know it was at least one, I think a DT?

2) Alabama's not the same team in Week 2 as it was now.

Now, do I think the SEC should be in ?

No.

Do I think they will be?

Yes.

I honestly think that they have a better chance of getting two in more than they are left out. Just being honest. I can see Georgia, Alabama, Washington & Michigan. I think that would be BS.

But I think that's slightly more likely than no SEC schools

No reason to even play the games. Results on the field do not matter.

SEC Invitational instead of the CFP
Basically. Got into last night with a good friend of mine who tried to sell me Alabama and this was one of Nick's greatest coaching jobs.

I told him it was a great win but Alabama has more talent and resources than 99.9% of the country in football. Them beating Georgia was a good win but it was not exactly Rudy or the Little Giants.

Last minute miracle to beat Auburn. Struggled in some narrow wins. Alabama is not a top 4 team. They are a 4th and 31 miracle and a long FG that hit the upright in lucky plays that would be 2 additional losses……in their last 2 games.

Even the ACC beat up on the SEC in the non con this year. The SEC was not some kind of juggernaut. The mystique is big though, never mind the favorable scheduling, only 8 conference games and they lost their fair share of non con matchups. It is not their birthright to have a playoff spot. And to say that Bama is a better team now than in week 2, well, they didn't look so hot last week and if Auburn would have field a punt late in the game, Bama would be out. Oh, and lastly and this has been mentioned of course, TEXAS BEAT THEM DOWN! Bama couldn't run the ball and they couldn't stop the run. If that game doesn't count, then why should any school risk anything by scheduling a tough non con game. Michigan didn't, their non con was pathetic.

Yep. And it shows how poor their non-conference results really were when the big bag SEC can’t even fill all of their bowl allotments, as the Liberty Bowl spot will not be filled by them. You have only 8 conference games, a tomato can mid-season and you still can get enough teams to a measly 6 wins? Yeah aside from the top two teams that conference this year was nothing special like in the past.

I hammered Texas -240 to make the playoff on Draft Kings last night, if they don’t get in over Alabama I’ll lose all faith in the system.

One thing I actually completely forgot (and I haven’t looked up the makeup of the committee this year) is FSU may not have many friends in that room from the ACC side. Unless there is a FSU, Clemson or UNC tie FSU’s actions at the beginning of the season on how they vocally wanted out of the ACC may come back haunt them. SEC and Big Ten folks want FSU out of the ACC as they chisel down to two main leagues and they want their teams in the CFP, so they certainly won’t lobby for the Seminoles. And any ACC reps may be a little petty and say, “Yeah you know what? We agree with you guys they don’t deserve to be in (insert wink).”

It’s college football after all.

Georgia played NOBODY this year. What it should be:

Michigan
Washington
Texas
Alabama

Agree Georgia’s schedule sucked. Bama played one tough OOC game…….at home. Soundly beaten by Texas at home. Florida State defense would shut down Bama. SEC has losing record to ACC and Big 12 this year. SEC is down and the results on the field should count. Wins no longer count. Not surprised. Ignoring actual results is the norm now.

Yes, but also a loss to any team in one game doesn't mean that team is better. Is OU better than UT? Or is Northwestern better at basketball than Purdue since they just beat them? The head to head between Alabama and Texas should not matter. The criteria for the CFP is not head to head records.
Well, you just made the argument that a playoff system/national championship game doesn’t matter. After all, if “a loss to any team in one game doesn’t mean that team is better,“ why are we crowning the winner of the championship game? They didn’t prove they were ”better” just by winning one game, right?

You can’t have it both ways - “head to head doesn’t always matter, anything can happen in one game” and “OMG we must get the best four teams selected to find out who is best on the field.”

Interestingly, I think 26 points is the average margin of defeat in Iowa’s previous 5 games vs ranked opponents.

Would have been a good year for the 12-team system...

#1 Michigan (Big Ten champion
---
#8 Oregon (Pac-12 at-large)
#9 Missouri (SEC at-large)

#4 Florida State (ACC champion)
---
#5 Alabama (SEC champion)
#12 SMU (American champion)

#2 Washington (Pac-12 champion)
---
#7 Ohio State (Big Ten at-large)
#10 Ole Miss (SEC at-large)

#3 Texas (Big 12 champion)
---
#6 Georgia (SEC at-large)
#11 Penn State (Big Ten at-large)

I moved a few teams around to avoid duplicate matchups in the first two rounds.
Only 1 Big 12 team? Missouri is a fraud SEC East team.

Also my favorite thing is its four “best” teams (whatever the **** that subjective garbage means) when convenient. Because if this is really who you think are the four best teams then Georgia is still in the top four sorry. You can’t be the consensus number one and then lose by three to another of the believed “best” four teams and drop all the way out.
But, but, but … they why did the committee have Bama ranked 8th? How can Georgia still be one of the “best four” when they lost to number 8?

(I‘d jimlad that if I could.)

You’re absolutely right about this “four best” nonsense being subjective garbage. The committee can justify any decision they want to make.

You know what this is about, don’t you? That’s right. Dollar signs. Advertisers being polled this morning.
