***2023-24 College Football Thread***

It's the lesser of two evils. I will root for TX to make the CFP's, begrudgingly.

They have a strong case to be in the final 4 this year.

Wouldn't this make the Big 12 more money per team?
Yes, the Big 12 makes more money, you just have to get 1 team in the playoffs.

Michigan
Bama
Georgia
Ohio State

The other conferences don’t count.
That's the way they feel. Yes.

If that's what they were to do, all hell would break loose. No, they will do this in a slower, more contained manner, until they own college football completely.

It's a slow death.

The Big 12 gets ~$80M no matter what.

If Texas is a semifinalist, it's an extra $6M. Which, after expense allotment and divvying up the remainder among the conference schools, means maybe $300k for ISU.

I want them to get in just so the Big 12 gets their Playoffs money. After that, they can get crushed in the semi finals.

I get it. I just want quality games come playoff time. Just like in the final year/s of BCS there was chaos and people said going to 4 so going to settle it. Now in the last year of this format there is chaos. I'm glad I'm not on this committee.
No it was always a potential issue when the fat cats that never wanted a playoff but begrudgingly agreed to one set it at four when you have five power conferences. It was stupid not to do at least 6 teams (byes for the top two seeds) or 8 from the get go.

Hate Texas but good thing with them getting in is all Big 12 teams move up the bowl pecking order. Texas Bowl, here we come.

And Alabama had a fluke 4th and a mile to beat a mediocre Auburn team one week ago. If you are going to care about ‘bad’ wins, hard to say there was a worse win than Bama 7 days ago.
We conveniently just forget that a week ago don’t we? But they found a way to win right? Well Florida State found a way to win at their rival and in a conference championship with a second and third string QB.

But poor Bama, they had to play Auburn after their battle with Chattanooga Choo Choos the week before

Also my favorite thing is its four “best” teams (whatever the **** that subjective garbage means) when convenient. Because if this is really who you think are the four best teams then Georgia is still in the top four sorry. You can’t be the consensus number one and then lose by three to another of the believed “best” four teams and drop all the way out.

The four “best” teams are likely Michigan, Bama, Texas and Georgia in no particular order. And I love Washington and they played a hell of a game Friday night but they had been eking by the last month until then.

This x1000!!!

The SEC refuses to go to 9 conference games because they don’t think they have to since they will always get 1-2 teams in the (current format) playoffs. They are the only Power 5 conference that only plays 8. If the committee had the balls to do the right thing, they would make it loud and clear that there SEC has weaker data points due to only having 8 conference games and at least 3 of the non conference games are against weak opponents.
You'd think that is what the committee might say to the SEC, yes. But who are the committee members and what is/are their loyalty(s)? That is the question.

This is somewhat akin to asking Congress to vote for something that does not benefit them personally. Follow the money trail usually gets you to the source of the problem.
