I think there are a group of 4 that could be selected to where the semi's could be just as good as the final.

Yes and I think we all agree on that, but the games have to matter. Sorry this is sports and FBS football is the only sport I can think of off the top of my head where you can be at the highest level (P5 in this case) and have people say you should not play for a championship if you go unbeaten. I mean what the hell are we even doing?

Thankfully this goes away next year. And I know the whole well team 13 will just be complaining blah blah blah. But it’s a you problem at that point because you control your own destiny by winning your conference. If you can’t do that then you are at the mercy of the at-large pool.

Really wish they would just leave the SEC out. They won't do it, but I wish they would.
Yep. Play 9 conference games you pussies. And the SEC was not good this year either. Doesn’t mean Bama and Georgia weren’t two of the best in the country but every other conference has to play by the perception of their entire league when analyzing them

Would have been a good year for the 12-team system...

#1 Michigan (Big Ten champion
---
#8 Oregon (Pac-12 at-large)
#9 Missouri (SEC at-large)

#4 Florida State (ACC champion)
---
#5 Alabama (SEC champion)
#12 SMU (American champion)

#2 Washington (Pac-12 champion)
---
#7 Ohio State (Big Ten at-large)
#10 Ole Miss (SEC at-large)

#3 Texas (Big 12 champion)
---
#6 Georgia (SEC at-large)
#11 Penn State (Big Ten at-large)

I moved a few teams around to avoid duplicate matchups in the first two rounds.

Some talking head was saying putting in the more deserving team is more important than the eye test now of the teams. Said why play the games if they do not matter? But the networks destroyed the PAC when trying to destroy the Big 12 just to promote the SEC and Big 10, so would not be surprised if Alabama gets in instead of Texas, but I don’t think it’s right and I hate Texas more.

I get it. I just want quality games come playoff time. Just like in the final year/s of BCS there was chaos and people said going to 4 so going to settle it. Now in the last year of this format there is chaos. I'm glad I'm not on this committee.

Wrong.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_Football_Playoff

A team's strength of schedule is one of the most pertinent considerations for the committee in making its selections.[42] Other factors that the committee weighs are conference championships, team records, and head-to-head results,[9] plus other points such as injuries and weather.[43]
I don't think UT beats Alabama right now. They almost lost to TCU? and Houston? Those teams are beyond terrible. Should have lost to KState. They caught Alabama early in the season and I think the committee is giving way too much weight to that win.

Kirk Herbstreit was stressing most deserving vs best teams. I believe FSU gets screwed because they don't have their QB and no one wants to watch them get killed as they can't move the ball. The committee takes injuries under consideration. I see zero chance they leave the SEC out and Texas has that win over Bama, so they aren't leaving them out. If this were fair, Bama and Georgia would be in NY6 bowl games instead of the playoff.

Total scores for and vs that Iowa in the championship game?

I see zero path for Georgia

They'd have to go full SEC homer and go Michigan Washington Alabama Georgia (They'd say Alabama should be in but also say Georgia shouldnt drop that far for losing to Alabama).

Don't think it'll happen, but the committee has done worse.

This x1000!!!

The SEC refuses to go to 9 conference games because they don’t think they have to since they will always get 1-2 teams in the (current format) playoffs. They are the only Power 5 conference that only plays 8. If the committee had the balls to do the right thing, they would make it loud and clear that there SEC has weaker data points due to only having 8 conference games and at least 3 of the non conference games are against weak opponents.

Yes, but also a loss to any team in one game doesn't mean that team is better. Is OU better than UT? Or is Northwestern better at basketball than Purdue since they just beat them? The head to head between Alabama and Texas should not matter. The criteria for the CFP is not head to head records.
you have two teams that both have one loss, there aren’t a lot of data points. So when one team goes into the others’ place and was clearly better that day, yes you do have to take it into account.

"MoV in games where they didn't play each other is more important than when they did."

lol

Texas went into Tuscaloosa and beat them by 10.

That's all you need to know for the tiebreaker to be settled between them.
