***2023-24 College Football Thread***

Texas beat both Bama and the Cyclones by 10.

They going to freeze out the SEC? Oh the horror:eek:

They are going to try and justify freezing out FSU probably

It takes some monumental levels of nonsense to think "having a better loss" trumps head-to-head.

There's a reason the first tiebreaker in any ranking system is head-to-head.

Normally those aren't available in college football between conferences outside of repeated rivalry games (e.g., Iowa versus Iowa State, Florida State versus Florida, USC and Clemson, etc.).

But Alabama and Texas serendipitously is available this season!

Texas > Alabama

It would be appropriate for the Committee to give the ACC or Big 12 one last screw job on its way out, though. That would be very on brand for them after all these years of SEC/Big Ten favoritism.
Yes, but also a loss to any team in one game doesn't mean that team is better. Is OU better than UT? Or is Northwestern better at basketball than Purdue since they just beat them? The head to head between Alabama and Texas should not matter. The criteria for the CFP is not head to head records.

I agree this is probably what it will be but I wouldn’t be surprised in if the committee tries to pull the “SEC strength of Schedule” BS and have Bama and UGA at 3 and 4 while Texas and FSU are left out. This committee is notorious for moving the goalposts to get certain teams in and the SEC and Big 10 have the lions share of power over the Big 12 (even if UT is SEC bound) and ACC.
And if this happens all of us will just have that much more reason to not support the CFP and anything B1G/SEC.

Maybe FriendlySpartan will then see how we feel.

I agree this is probably what is deserved but my God.....the SEC being left out?
I think it’s not out of the realm we are going to see some BS tomorrow that somehow Bama and UGA get in (Texas and FSU out) just because of the power the SEC has.

The backup QB will be back next game for FSU. SEC deserves to be shut out. They lost on the field. Bama is an outright miracle away from a terrible loss to a mediocre Auburn team. Stay Home Alabama.

Wrong.

A team's strength of schedule is one of the most pertinent considerations for the committee in making its selections.[42] Other factors that the committee weighs are conference championships, team records, and head-to-head results,[9] plus other points such as injuries and weather.[43]

**** Texas.

Their fans think we have a poverty conference, blamed Kansas St for recruiting issues, and tried to kill the remaining 8.

Keep them out of the playoffs.

Not necessarily, if they draw Michigan I think their D can shut them down and at least make it a competitive game. Was not impressed at all today by Michigan's offense.

For all the fun at Iowa's offensive woes their defense is salty. I think Michigan played it safe tonight. Get in get out win and stay healthy. You will see a different Michigan in 4 weeks.

That has zero chance of happening so many you will stop thinking the sky is falling like when people were so adamant TCU wasn’t getting in last year over bama
