In memoriam of Brian Ferentz as Iowa's OC

Just a formality because they have to. Same as a company interviewing for a job when they already know who they're going to select.

I get that but the timing is weird. Why not have a committee in place as soon as Barta stepped aside?
Higher education moves at a slow pace. It is common to place a person in an interim role before selecting a committee. The interim role gives Barbara Wilson the ability to see how Goetz performs in the role. Often, universities place people in interim roles for years and then promote them to the role without a search. They use the rationale that the person has been doing the job for xx number of years, so there is no reason to do a search. Additionally, Barta left at the start of the academic year, which for people from academics is busy.

You think other P5 universities would do it differently?

I don’t think the U if I is any more bureaucratic than any other public university if that’s what you’re asking. I made a general statement on the ridiculousness of this whole charade.

A search firm? Why?

At this level the Firm is most likely a retained search firm. Which means Iowa will pay several hundred thousand (minimum) even if they hire Goetz as full time AD. Yet another waste of money by TOE. Unless Kirk threw a tantrum and she will not get the job.

In Brian's defense... NOBODY in the Big 10 West averages over 25 points per game. Even if you add in non con games.

What's the point of having Beth be interim and then doing a search? She's got the support of the coaches and looks to be a good fit. Why waste the money?
Most, if not all public universities are going to go through a formal, public search process for an AD. Not saying it isn't a waste of time or money, but it's not unique to Iowa.

My question is why wasnt this done a long time ago. Barta has been gone quite a while, you have someone in place that is probably the top candidate. So if it is just a formality or not, why wasnt this committee established as soon as Barta was on the way out.

Everyone has expected them to take the interim label off Goetz for a while, but now they set up a committee months late to look for someone else?

Iowa is such a cluster **** when it comes to management.

Maybe it's all just a formality, university knows it wants BG as the AD, has assurances that BG wants the gig, so this is just about going through the bureaucratic motions and the timing is essentially meaningless.
