F*CK IOWA

Even Iowa has had a couple bad losses in non conference play in that stretch. ND State and Northern Iowa come to mind right away. But I do agree the CMC teams tend to start slow every year, and it has been a source of frustration for ISU fans. I think this year it was expected given the high volume of underclassmen playing
Never lost to northern Iowa even though 09 was scary. That NDSU loss was last one I think outside of p5 and think it was in Campbell's first year

With these Iowa fans acting like they'd have made the Big12 championship game (literally only if they had WV's schedule would it be possible fyi) it made me realize I'd love an Ok State Iowa bowl game. Bowman would still be the best QB Iowa faced outside of McCarthy, and an offensive minded coach like Gundy v Ferentz would be a great scheme on scheme battle.
Bowman is better than Allar?

I also would like to see that one. It looks like it will be Ole Miss or Mizzou in the Citrus though. Ole Miss would be fun, Mizzou would be a struggle.

Wish Iowa State/the Big 12 would take a page out of the Big 10's book and just refuse to play FCS anymore. I could do without that UNI game specifically.

What you're saying is true his teams do by my and most eyes say his team's get better as season progresses.

It's just ironic though that narrative here is Iowa only wins once they get to play west teams when actually between the 2 Iowa State does better inside the conference. Iowa also does pretty well against the East minus Michigan and Ohio State. In total I believe Iowa has a winning record vs the East since its inception
What is Iowa's record against teams that have finished in the top 3 in the East? No one gives a crap that Iowa beats up on Indiana, Rutgers and bad Michigan State teams.

Remind me how many times Iowa has played Michigan and Ohio State in the regular season since the East/West split? I'll tell you

Michigan 3 times (2 home. 1 away); Ohio State 2 times (1 home, 1 away)

Compare that to Minnesota:

Michigan 5 times (3 home, 2 away); Ohio State 5 times (2 home, 3 away)

We understand Iowa doesn't schedule games... we understand Iowa only plays the opponents they are scheduled. But Iowa fans need to understand they have been very fortunate to constantly avoid playing the two main programs in the east

I'd much rather play a team like Utah State vs UNI to start the year. Though I do miss UNI and Drake on the basketball slate.
I don't miss them at all. Pound them, well good you should have. Narrowly defeat them, wtf is wrong with you? God forbid lose to them, subject of ridicule no matter how the season shakes out.

I compare it to when Iowa State lost to Louisiana a few years ago. Covid season. They weren't even FCS level, but Iowa fans held that over Iowa State fans heads all season despite the great finish, Big 12 Championship appearance, and NY6 bowl.

Bowman is not better than Allar. Right now, Allar is the best QB Iowa has faced with Rocco being second. Now at the time, Rocco wasn't near where he is now but that's just the way it goes.

Covid year i dont doubt led to awkward practices in leadup to season then Louisiana was a good team that year too. Imo you want the first game to be your easiest on the whole slate. Just start 1-0 and get live reps.

OK but nobody's really beating those teams. Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn state to lesser degree don't lose to anyone. Even outside the conference unless its in playoffs. I get what you're saying but just because Iowa doesn't beat elite teams doesn't mean they can't beat good teams. Past couple years have been odd because big ten west has been it's worse version so there's no team ranked like where oklahoma state and Kansas state 15-25 type. Not saying they would beat those teams neccesarily. I don't think Iowa would have a prayer vs any team in the current top 10. I do think there's more than a few teams they could beat after that.

What you just said made all of our points though. Iowa rarely ever plays nor beats the best teams in the conference. To that point, when they do play them it's a lopsided defeat. I do not think Iowa would beat many teams in the top 25. Iowa hasn't played a ranked opponent all year outside of Penn State and that game was embarrassing to the game of football.

But that's the point! To say Iowa has a winning record against the east, yet can't beat the top teams from the east only means they rarely play the top teams from the east. The data supports that. Which simply means Iowa has been fortunate to continuously draw a conference schedule similar that to West Virginia's conference schedule this year. It should be something all Iowa fans should at least admit - it's not their fault. They didn't create the schedule. But just acknowledge part of their perceived "success" is because of their easier than average conference slate. Just make that acknowledgement and you'll make my day! :)

Multiple things can be true at once folks...

Iowa beat ISU week 2
ISU has gotten immensely better since week 2
Iowa had a powder puff schedule this year
Iowa and Iowa State won't play a hypothetical week 14 game
Iowa is going to get embarrassed on national TV in about 34 hours
Stop right there. You know you're asking a former kirkwood enrollee to consider 5 things at once, right? Are we even sure they can count that high?

You might be the first Iowa fan I have heard admit that Louisiana was a good team. LOL

Not just the best teams in the conference 2 of the top 5 teams in the whole country past 5 years.

I guess that's where disagreement begins I think once you get outside top 10-12 Iowa's in the next half of rankings league. Above that like many others they're not. Had Iowa State beaten Ohio like many here including myself think they should and would now Iowa State might just be in or edge of top 25

I wish they'd just let Ohio play in the MAC Championship game. Miami's starting QB has been hurt and they are running on fumes. Toledo will probably win by 2+ scores.

All of this will change next season. Tougher opponents and no divisions will make it more difficult for the hoks to get wins. Hok fans understand this and it’s hard for some of them to admit I’m right. Kirk will hang around to get the record for most wins, but it’s going to take him longer now. And winning seasons and bowl bids may be few and far between with the new BIG. But hey, Hok fans can watch ISU in their bowl games and occasionally in CFP games. It’s a rosy future for Cyclone fans, not so much for EIU.
