Let's be fair to him. He had only 11 pass attempts on the entire year (completing 9), scattered over 3 games. Rocco has been fantastic, so even if Kohl was looking really good for a freshman QB, he was unlikely to see the field. It was painfully obvious that Kohl was not ready to process the action at this level when thrown out there. Which is the norm for true freshmen QB’s. I expect he will stick around another year as he gets up to speed and the staff emphasizes that he is “one play away” from being QB1. Rocco had a very good year and if Abu and the receivers all return, the potential is for offensive growth. My concern is not about players leaving, I’m hoping we hang onto Scheelhouse.
Assuming Kohl want to play P4 football, there’s nowhere he can transfer to and guarantee play right away.He might. Its just in todays and with only one year between them - I doubt anyone sits for 3-4 years . That doesn't always happen at places like Georgia or Bama where they are winning national titles. That age in CF is long dead and gone. At least at positions like QB and the "skilled" positions. Linemen maybe? IDK.
And since Rocco had the season he did - I'd be very surprised if it was an actual "competition". It seems pretty clear and with good reason that they're all in on the Rocco wagon. So then the question becomes - do you want to spend a year of elgibility sitting on the bench , not really playing and taking your chances after two years of doing that, or do it now?
Like I said. I can't answer that. But across the landscape of the sport, I do know which answer more and more kids are seeming to chose.
I think he was implying that Dekkers would have won 3-4 games rather than 7. Could be wrong. I don't think that's fair to Dekkers because we don't know how much he could have improved, but I will say that I am glad Rocco is our QB.We go 10-2 with Dekkers? Part of it was, Brock could run and do what he wanted. He had 2 other experienced QBs behind him. Rocco had JJ, a true freshman, and then a lightly recruited juco who was picked up to have someone if he went down. Rocco was bubble wrapped a little bit I believe. You're right. He has to be the guy going into the spring. You're also right two different scenarios. One, was a true freshman coming in during the middle of the season. Another was a redshirt freshman who had a whole year in the program, but was pushed into starting role during fall camp. Granted Hakeem Butler made life easier on Brock, but it was no question going into the next year Brock was special and was thee rock we could build our offense around. I'm just saying I don't see that YET with Rocco. I have seen some good, and some bad, which is expected. Some of which, could be him being on a leash somewhat. We shall see; however I'm not sold on him completely.
Nate has not shown much for another team to hire him at this point. It was painfully obvious that Kohl was not ready to process the action at this level when thrown out there. Which is the norm for true freshmen QB’s. I expect he will stick around another year as he gets up to speed and the staff emphasizes that he is “one play away” from being QB1. And Jay Cutler was a good decision makerIf Dekkers plays, we win another 3-4 games this year instead of 7
I don't disagree, but I think there is one problem with your premise...Assuming Kohl want to play P4 football, there’s nowhere he can transfer to and guarantee play right away.
There will be a ton of more seasoned, experienced QBs to choose from for those programs. There’s already 4 QBs who started at P5 programs this year in the transfer portal: Howard from KSU, Schapen from Baylor, Will Rogers from Mississippi State, and Van Dyke from Miami. There also will be highly successful QBs from lower levels (similar to Dillon Gabriel at OU or Cam Ward at WSU) who will want to move up a level for NIL and better competition. They will also be more desirable than Kohl.
There also will be higher-rated QB prospects than Kohl entering the transfer portal too who are in their sophomore, junior or senior seasons but have been backing up established starters (one to watch out for is Archie Manning).
I see him staying another year. But if he transfers this year for playing time it would likely be dropping down a level. Or he could transfer to backup a QB who is a junior or senior rather than a RS freshman. But he could do that next year just as easily.
Cam Rising will be a 25 year old QB when we play Utah next season.I will be glad when the covid years are over. So many players stretching out careers that normally would not be able to.
This is either a poorly written sentence or the worst take ever. Surely you don’t believe the team would have been better off with Dekkers. If Dekkers plays, we win another 3-4 games this year instead of 7
I agree at this point but the trajectory is there. And he not older like Heacock and may be more likely to want another, bigger challenge.Nate has not shown much for another team to hire him at this point.
Dekkers got worse as last year went on. He could have been a turnover machine (which he had a tendency towards). With Becht behind him he might have been allowed to run more, becht didn't have as much behind him so they limited the offense a lot.I think we beat Iowa and Ohio with Dekkers, but then later in the year we would have lost some Big 12 games with Dekkers that we won with Becht…. if that makes sense?
Becht started the year playing a little timid and the coaches didn’t let him do much. I think Dekkers would have been better at the start of the season IMO.
I would say another year, unless he would drop down to lower G5 type HC gigs. If he puts in another year and shows improvement then I would say a higher end G5 position would be possible.I agree at this point but the trajectory is there. And he not older like Heacock and may be more likely to want another, bigger challenge.
CW has never been great at analysis. Not his thing, nor does it need to be.
wow. I see what I did there. **** no we’re not Better off with dekkersThis is either a poorly written sentence or the worst take ever. Surely you don’t believe the team would have been better off with Dekkers.
Sorry folks. I meant with dekkers, we have another year of 3-4 wins instead of 7 we had this year. I don’t believe we are better off with dekkers. I’ve been outspoken about this all year.If Dekkers plays, we win another 3-4 games this year instead of 7
I'd say he's a 1-2 away from a good "lower" job. He might get a lower lower job now but why would you want that? Like, no offense to ULM, but honestly, why? Etc.I agree at this point but the trajectory is there. And he not older like Heacock and may be more likely to want another, bigger challenge.
