Transfer Portal Tracker

I imagine Kohl will announce eventually. I think it’s pretty clear that Rocco is going to start here the rest of his career
I think he lasts another year. Injuries do happen and can ignite a career. Hell I don’t think many were thinking Rocco would stay very long last year.

I'm fine with them being able to transfer wherever they want, after sitting a year.
And the coaches too? I’m kidding of course, but relationships with the coaches and how much playing time they’ll get are a big reason why a player picks a team.

This happened in the old days. The great teams just recruited everyone without limits, no freshman played, and when the good players couldn’t break through they just stayed to get a degree and graduate because there wasn’t any money to play professionally.

Then the big dogs still recruited everyone, told them all they could play. But it was a hindrance to transfer because you had to sit out and teams (are still recruiting your position by the way) would try to find your replacement and develop them even when you could be eligible again.

Now that you can get to the nfl and make good money, guys aren’t willing to sit. They want to get out and play as much as they can to try and get a paycheck.

Teams like Iowa State will be successful if they find lower level guys who can shine on the big stage or big time recruits stuck on great teams who want their time shine. It’s just recruiting 2.0

LOL. Well played. Seriously though, I'm not totally sold on Becht yet. It may be due to the OC having training wheels on him most of the year and not being able to see totally what he is capable of. However, there was no question Brock Purdy was the guy after his Freshman year based on his performance. With Becht I get game manager vibes. He has definitely gotten better since game 1 no question. Can't wait to see how much he improves going into spring.
Statistically he was top 50 as a QB this year, and I think top 3? for Freshman. This isn’t a good take

im not sure if this has been posted but I did see this somewhere after K State game:

– 2,674 yards
– 63.5% completion
– 20 TD
– 8 INT
– 147.0 QBR
– less than 1 sack per game

If you evaluate every QB in college football on that criteria, guys who qualify are Carson Beck, Georgia, Bo Nix, Oregon, Michael Penix Jr., Washington,
….and Rocco Becht, you know who.

That’s a pretty impressive list.

Could probably win a few bar bets on that one.

You cannot compare the 2 scenarios. Completely different. Rocco has to be the guy going forward until he does something to lose it.

Really not sure where you get the QBR from? Because according to ESPN - his QBR is 68.1. Which is still plenty good as a freshman and puts him 40th. For example., Jayden Daniels has the highest QBR and his 95 something. So I don't think you're QBR number is accurate, FWIW.

In terms of Freshman he'd be 4th nationally behind Fifita (Arizona), Hoover (TCU), and Colandera (Virginia) in terms of QBR

Either way its a very impressive season. I am curious as to what he looks like moving forward as hopefully the offense expands and I kinda get the point about how it'll be a bigger test and the like, but that's true of everyone who returns on the team , its just QB is the obvious position where that is true.

And - IDK anything - but given the closeness of their age and also the modern times we are in, I seriously doubt Kohl is around much longer. Not that it really matters in the sense since clearly Rocco, unless he falls off the face of the planet so to speak, is QB1... but it would not surprise me if we have Rocco, Hughes and the new kid from SEP redshirting come fall as QB depth, Moberly, I believe.

I think it’s more likely Moberly switches positions when he gets here.

Additionally, I also saw the QBR 147 number on ESPN, however now I’m not sure what that was for

He might. Its just in todays and with only one year between them - I doubt anyone sits for 3-4 years . That doesn't always happen at places like Georgia or Bama where they are winning national titles. That age in CF is long dead and gone. At least at positions like QB and the "skilled" positions. Linemen maybe? IDK.

And since Rocco had the season he did - I'd be very surprised if it was an actual "competition". It seems pretty clear and with good reason that they're all in on the Rocco wagon. So then the question becomes - do you want to spend a year of elgibility sitting on the bench , not really playing and taking your chances after two years of doing that, or do it now?

Like I said. I can't answer that. But across the landscape of the sport, I do know which answer more and more kids are seeming to chose.

You're right. He has to be the guy going into the spring. You're also right two different scenarios. One, was a true freshman coming in during the middle of the season. Another was a redshirt freshman who had a whole year in the program, but was pushed into starting role during fall camp. Granted Hakeem Butler made life easier on Brock, but it was no question going into the next year Brock was special and was thee rock we could build our offense around. I'm just saying I don't see that YET with Rocco. I have seen some good, and some bad, which is expected. Some of which, could be him being on a leash somewhat. We shall see; however I'm not sold on him completely.

It was painfully obvious that Kohl was not ready to process the action at this level when thrown out there. Which is the norm for true freshmen QB’s. I expect he will stick around another year as he gets up to speed and the staff emphasizes that he is “one play away” from being QB1. Rocco had a very good year and if Abu and the receivers all return, the potential is for offensive growth. My concern is not about players leaving, I’m hoping we hang onto Scheelhouse.
