I'd be surprised if he's not offered and he doesn't accept if all things are the same when it opensI wouldn’t assume that. If you did get him, I’m not scared of him at all as long as we have TJ.

This is a very interesting year for Devries. I live 5 minutes from Drake, go to some games every year and follow them closely. He assembled a good roster overnight and really outperformed expectations his first couple years, then all those guys got an extra year due to covid. But man they lost a lot. I looked at their roster yesterday and they only have his son and Darnell Brodie back with any meaningful experience. Almost the entire roster is new.I'd be surprised if he's not offered and he doesn't accept if all things are the same when it opens
Fran is a terrible recruiter, yes we agree. And yet he always has some weird combination of offspring, slow and unathletic types, and an All-American or two and it seems to work just enough to scratch the March Madness itch. Just enoughYep, Fran as a coach is similar to Tom Davis in that neither recruited well, but still had decent results. Fran is a terrible recruiter for a variety of reasons, but yet still fields a competitive team most years.
I agree I'd be happy and I think it'd be good fit. I'm in similar boat living nearby and going to knapp. Tonight should give us some idea Lipscomb isn't a bad mid major. Beat Louisville last year (who didn't) and close losses to notre dame and Michigan though not sure what they return. Ideally would of been package deal if it happens with Tucker but I'm afraid probably missed that window. This is a very interesting year for Devries. Devries is a good coach and would be a good hire for Iowa but if Drake takes a step back the next couple year’s it will be interesting to see the appetite among Hawk fans to hire him. Either way, they could do a lot worse.
Yep. Another 1st round exit, most likely. They were supposed to be bad last year too and got in so I'll expect the same.
Tom Davis got run out because of Tim Floyd’s success.Tom Davis would run laps around Fran. Better win %, played tougher schedule, went to tournament more often and went past 1st weekend. Finished season ranked 6x with average ranking of about 15, Fran finished season ranked 4x with average rank of 22. Both have 13 seasons complete at Iowa.
Tom Davis run out because he didn't have 'success' in tourney despite 2x Sweet 16 and an Elite 8.
Fran isn't sure there really is a Sweet 16.
Take the underDid I hear correctly that 7,653 was the listed attendance for the Iowa men’s basketball game? The students must really love Mad Fran.
I don’t think they will. They have good coaching and a few talented guys. Think they are a bubble team. Not great on the interior but I like their guards and they can shoot.Be careful about using Oklahoma as a measuring stick for Iowa. I would anticipate them being a bottom 4 program in the Big 12 this year.
Enright is back as well. But I think they will be pretty good again. Got a few transfers. This is a very interesting year for Devries. Damn. Carver might be an improvement to the Knapp in terms of fan support. Devries will be very comfortable with all the empty seats in Carver. Drake is in one of its best stretches since Maury John and 5 minutes to tipoff the crowd for the opener is pathetic. I feel bad. The Knapp was rocking in 2007-08.I agree I'd be happy and I think it'd be good fit. Keno Davis shouldn't have left. That was a mistake on his part.Damn. Carver might be an improvement to the Knapp in terms of fan support. I'm guessing he didn't attend Iowa by this.Me of course *eye roll at my father in law's lack of appreciation*
Fran is your average Iowa fan. He truly is one of them, why they support him so much. The feeling I got from the Dr. Tom situation was he was likeable but fans didn't think the ceiling was high enough. With Fran I'm not sure if it's his attitude/antics or that his program has too low of a ceiling.
I'm not sure what would get Iowa's fanbase excited about basketball again other than making a couple of serious runs in March.
Unfortunately I think there will be a complete overhaul with both of those programs by 2025. Here's to hoping they go through a couple decades of suck as they struggle to figure out a new identity with both programs. What’s funny to me is how it parallels football. Long time coach, shades of nepotism, loads up Ws versus crap teams, but there’s a hard ceiling with their style of play and talent level that prevents them from ever doing anything nationally. They win just enough to avoid the hot seat. But bad teams have almost no chance against them. And good teams will make them look stu

Davis was twice the coach Fran is.Yep, Fran as a coach is similar to Tom Davis in that neither recruited well, but still had decent results. Fran is a terrible recruiter for a variety of reasons, but yet still fields a competitive team most years.
