In memoriam of Brian Ferentz as Iowa's OC

Weird to put that out. That’s like saying he’s firmly entrenched.
"I'm not leaving without my money. Ball is in your court."

I don't know how petty Kirk is. I still think he agrees on a settlement to retire if he leaves his imprint on the program through the coaching hire. But he loses all leverage if he makes it sound like he's ready to ride off into the sunset. So he won't be saying anything that sounds like that.

Yeah to me it’s posturing on potential buyout

Any EIU fan that thinks Freerents is going to just up and walk away from over $40 million guaranteed are doing nothing but wishful thinking. This is a man that after the strength coach was discipled for sending kids to the hospital that same fall awarded him the assistant coach of the team award. The first and only time any assistant coach has been given any award.
He has the big donors backing him for the most part, the AD and new EIU president are not going to die on that hill by trying to force him out, he will be coaching at EIU as long as he wants to coach at EIU.

"The intent was to try to steer this thing back to what is important right now," Ferentz told Dolphin. "I enjoy coaching. Fortunately, I feel really good. The doctors tell me I’m OK; I hope they’re right. I hope to keep doing this for quite a while. I’ve always loved being here."

WTF does that mean,....."I am OK".

At his age I would say that he had something on a test that scared him and the doctors, more tests were done, and it turned out be nothing to worry about.

You think Kirk will tell BF to try to go nuts and show that he should still be there? Like score 20 points on offense?
If KF’s son is fired, he falls a few wins short of the required winning percentage to reach the HOF, plus a few short of most wins in the Big10, he might well go all in and bet the under like the rest of us.

The SEC has been by far the best football conference since the turn of the century. 14 national titles by five different teams is something no other conference can even get close to. Would be 15 titles by six different teams if you went back to 1998 Tennessee.
Agree with this take. The SEC is stronger for a few reasons (only play 8 conference games, in hotbed of football recruiting). The Big 10 has always been the Big 2 (tOSU and Mich)..... it's been that way for a really LONG time. The Big 8/12 has has it's ups and downs through the decades, and is definitely not better than the SEC.

After reading this one, it sounds like a lot of head coaches should be gone or on a VERY hot seat. I do realized there are a couple of newbies, but for those veteran coaches... ouch!
DO NOT blame the offenses. The Defenses are ELITE. Especially Iowa D. It is ELITE. The Iowa defense is ELITE. It has nothing to do with feasting on poor offenses. They are ELITE. Lets all continue to say ELITE to make it true. The Defense is ELITE.

Interesting to hear Chad and Scott on IE say they think most fans are relieved that Kirk is coming back (from a radio show on Wed).
Also, sounds like their personal opinion would be to hire Chyrst.

I SHOULD EDIT: Paul Chryst as OC under Kirk.

I am sure this is common knowledge, but I am unclear. Is Brian still the OC thru the end of the season? Or is he literally out the door right now and someone else is doing it?

Moving on from Kirk Ferentz to hire Paul Chryst

Iowa fans are officially addicted to "above-average is plenty good". They're terrified of taking the chance of sucking (even for a short time) in order to possibly be really great at some point. (Women's basketball doesn't count because Clark is a once in a generation talent that fell in their lap).

I think Chryst is about the most Iowa fans could realistically hope for. They’re not getting an innovator as long as Kirk is here.

I would say it’s about 50-50 from what I read on the Iowa boards on whether they want Kirk to stay. I would guess most of the big donors wanted him to stay, which is what matters.

Makes you question the statement about Iowas elite defense. While a very good defense, they don’t really have to face any offense.
