Bobby knight dies

Long time since his undefeated season. I'm beginning to wonder if they'll ever be another. RIP Coach.

Also ruined people’s lives, left them with anxiety, depression. Bullied people, cost people jobs. If anyone saw the Neil Reed documentary u would know knight was a piece of crap.
Maybe, but at his funeral, there will be hundreds of his former players in attendance, that will be telling everyone what a great coach he was and a positive impact on their life. He is not the type of coach for everyone, but every kid that played under him chose to be there, no one forced them to sign on with Knight, they made that choice.

To everyone who dumbed my post. I hope you don’t get bullied by someone who ruins your life. Let alone the countless lives knight destroyed to make himself look like a hero. I’m not about people like that. Keep singing his praises because he won some basketball games.

I dumbed it because whether or not you like a person its petty and disrespectful when you say something like "I don’t really care if he rests in peace." I don't care how much you dislike someone or what they did they are still someone's family or friend that was loved by someone that is now mourning and a decent human being would just keep it to themselves or say nothing at all when referring to someone's death. You probably wouldn't appreciate if someone you cared about died and someone said something like that about them.

And to your bully comments I had several years as a teenager where I was bullied by peers and just hated going to school because of it so I know how it feels. But you can either forgive and move on or you can hold a grudge the rest of your life and be resentful and angry towards people you don't like which isn't a very healthy thing to do. Believe me there are some people from my past that I used to just hate for how they treated me but over the years I've found that you are going to be a lot happier in life if you don't keep going back to that dark time and focus on the positives in your life now. There are people and classmates that I once couldn't stand and harbored a lot of hate and anger towards that I now get along with now that we've grown up and realized how stupid we acted when we were younger. If anything the hard times I went through being bullied as a teenager probably has thickened my skin towards letting negativity rule my life or needing to feel accepted by people I would be better off not having them as friends. There are some people that aren't worth wasting your time on and allowing them to consume negative space in your mind.

As for Bob Knight he had his bad moments and could be an a-hole but he also owned it. His players graduated and stayed out of trouble for the most part which is something a lot look past too and just focus on things they don't like about him. He also did a lot of good and charitable things behind the scenes that he didn't care about making headlines for doing either. This is an interesting read - yes it's from the Indy Star so it's got a big of local spin on things but some stories shared here about some of the positive things he did that he didn't need or want media attention for doing.

I took my parents to the game when Knight was coaching at TT, mom was a huge Knight fan, I have no clue why, but she just loved the guy. The only time they were ever in Hilton. As usual, great atmosphere, I believe TT won the game, but it still was a fun day.
Nah, I was at this one and Bob Knight was coaching.

Agree, but I have to wonder what would have happened if Knight coached in the transfer portal era.

I guess my view is if Bobby Knight didn’t want people to criticize his behavior after he died, he shouldn’t have behaved that way when he was alive. The fact that he is dead really doesn’t change that much to me.

Also, I do think there’s a difference between Drew saying that to his family at a visitation and posting that here. Saying it to his family at the visitation is kind of rude because you’re just hurting his family at that point. But knight has no connection to Iowa State and there is no reason to think his family is reading these comments.

Dying doesn’t make you a saint and doesn’t make you immune from criticism

So I can't say anything bad about someone who has died in the past? Hitler, Stalin, and many other bad guys because I might hurt their families feelings? That is strange. I didn't say it to his family either. I said it on a website. If you don't want people to talk bad about you, then live a life worth not being talked bad about. He treated 18 and 19 year old kids like a bully. the guy was a POS. Did he do some nice stuff behind the scenes. Sure but you can say that about every single person in history. Doing good stuff while treating others the way he did, does not make up for it. You also said he owned it?? He did not own it. When he got busted choking Neil he went out of his way to not own it, then degraded some college kids within a few weeks of being busted. Then made everyone in the Indiana admin the bad guy so he could still seem like the hero. Threw Indiana under the bus every chance he could.

I think you would see a lot more attrition. Plus, I don’t really like the idea of, “well, they signed up for it.” That doesn’t make his behavior ok
Right? Just completely wash away any responsibility coach Knight had for being an abusive a-hole and place all the blame on the decision of a high school student to play at Indiana.

I thought this article did a pretty good job of nailing his legacy:

Didn't realize that Knight was a dictator that killed innocent people. Not exactly making a good comparison there. Just because you type something on a message board doesn't mean it's not a classless thing to say regardless who the individual is or what they may have done reflects how you may have some hate in your heart toward some people. Just posting a link without the negative commentary would have sufficed. I'm not defending the bad things he did but would think a decent human being could be a little more civilized after news of another human had passed whether you liked them or not. Not worth my time to get into it anymore with you, you think what you want to but for someone that has already played the bully card in another post to say something like that is a bit hypocritic.

Bob Knight was a terrible coach and person who was able to abuse players into winning games for him and him alone. No amount of goodwill or charity could make up for the lives he ruined during his tenure at IU. He deserves no praise and should be remembered as an abuser who assaulted his own players for his own gain.

IF a girl is being raped, she should just sit back and enjoy it... Bob Knight..... That is who we are talking about. Maybe not a dictator who killed people. He was a dictator though.

I am confused.

Did you personally know Bobby Knight and have negative interactions with him. Or are you basing your statements on a documentary you watched?

Some of us were alive when he was a coach. There are videos you can watch of him choking Neil Reed. You can watch his press conferences of him acting like a complete, unhinged lunatic, screaming at people...because basketball? I don't have to personally know someone to know they're a piece of trash.

Unfortunate choice of words in this excerpt:

... it was impossible not to be choked up at the sight of Knight at Assembly Hall ...
