I’d rather play UCF. Especially sooner rather than later as Deion could get that thing cookin’. I wish we played them next year then took a year off of him. Then he’ll likely be gone for one reason or another.

Big this. SOS literally does not matter one drop of a percent in college football. When all you have to do to play in the postseason is meet a number you should absolutely try to get the easiest path to that number. Iowa is considered a good program from years of feasting on losers or good programs having a down season and then getting demolished whenever they play someone good.
If both schools are really that concerned about the nation's longest continuous rivalry being interrupted they can go to the conference office and put them on notice that they will be playing each other as a non-con game in 2027.
I'm pretty sure that won't happen so maybe it isn't that important to these two schools.

Really I still bring up the powder puff schedule that KSU had in the 90s etc to pad their win column. Some years playing multiple fcs teams and multiple G5s.
We still remind Iowa that their schedule is weak, and has been for years.
I think bigger, regional, and historic matchups are more important that ISU vs UCF, or ISU vs Houston, but thats just me I guess. I believe that ISU vs KSU history means something and much more than ISU vs Cinci etc. But I guess thats too old school, and believe that either you protect everyones rivals or none, not really a fair deal to protect a handful of teams rivals and not others.
I also think losing games like NU vs ISU, MU vs ISU, and now KSU vs ISU on annual basis has been bad for ISU and for football in general.
Agreed. And I'm tired of announcers pointing out that we've never had a 10 win season.
Snyder learned it from Fry, schedule as many cupcakes as you can and build up your win total. It's not who you beat that people remember, but how many wins you get.
Why they still would be playing at least 2 of the TX/OK teams every year, not to mention the Original members should have at least a little preference over expansion teams at least at the start.
I don't disagree with your reasoning. That doesn't mean that Houston doesn't feel entitled that if pods were to be put together Houston has an absolute god given right to be in one with the other Texas schools. Because Texas.
Well it didnt happen and only a few schools got a rivalry game, so as usual ISU gets screwed.

Colorado also wouldn't be happy being in a pod with 3 Midwest schools (even if they were old Big 8 rivals).
Best case scenario for ISU would have been a pod with KU, KSU and CO. But the pod idea obviously got vetoed by certain schools like Houston and Colorado (and maybe OSU too). Given that wasn't an option, I think ISU came out of things just fine
To be fair, one of FSU's non-ACC games to end the year is @ Florida - which is quite meaningful.
There is a difference in rivalries where one or both schools leave the conf. Not really possible to protect that rivalry.
But when said schools remain in conference there should be a way to protect them.
One protected rival would not have helped ISU with KU or K-State but ISU vs. Oklahoma State would have been a fantastic protected rivalry based on the history since I have been a Cyclone. Either way, Let's go State and Get her done-*!
