Future Big 12 FB Opponents/Schedule Announced

Discussion is going so fast I may have missed it...

but are there ZERO protected fb rivalries or just ISU has none?

In terms of "just win baby" a protected rivalry with Kansas State in football doesn't help us "just win".

Ditto for guaranteed home and home with KU in basketball to an even greater degree.

Are Utah and BYU going to skip years too?
Arizona/ASU, Utah/BYU, Kansas/K-State, TCU/Baylor are the only protected games for this round.

There are some that seem to be protected, KSU and KU play every year, and a few others.

ISU just got screwed.

There are so many better options than this. This sucks.

@CoachHines3 when the schedule dropped

i regret it b/c now i get to read about all the bitchn!

Here's my thinking - would you rather have 1 protected rival you get every year, or a bunch that you play 3/4? We get KSU, KU, OSU 75% of the years. There isn't a year in there where we play none of them. We also have the Riot Bowl 75% of the time. And, we only get the Arizona and Texas schools 2 out of 4 years. I would like to have seen Farmageddon protected, but if you protect every rivalry you'd end up with extremely unbalanced schedules (like the Big Ten, especially Iowa going forward with 3 protected rivals). The Big 12 decided to favor schedule balance across all 16 schools more than protecting historical rivalries, but then offered a little concession with weighting schedules a little bit in that direction. I'm fine with it. After all the years with the round-robin (my favorite type of schedule), this variety will be fun as a contrast.

Perfectly said. It’s a fun game because of our history and similarities…but most don’t want to win that game more than any other conference game. Not a true rivalry.

Another thing that makes it not a rivalry game is that I like Kansas State. They're our twin program if there was one. I HATE Iowa, **** them. They're a rival.

This guy gets it.

You can't lock K-State into two games every year and Kansas is, by far, the bigger rivalry.

Why can’t you?

Even if it is somehow unworkable (it isn’t), there are still plenty of other teams we could learn to hate.

Just sucks that we don’t get a conference rival to build a tradition around.

Iowa has 3 rivals, when others in the B1G only have 1.

there are a few in this sched that have 1 rival while others have none..

So what is the difference if some have 2 while others have 1.

the funny thing is Utah doesn’t want to play byu. They hate byu so bad they convinced themselves MWC>big 12

Over the past decade Baylor/TCU would have superior SOS from this. It’s the only one where both teams are typically ranked in their average year.

For sure, but that's what strikes me as so odd. How we're all arriving at very different opinions over the same thing.

I'd assume the vast majority of this message board are die-hard fans of varying ages.
I don't think our opinions are that different. You said it's close to a rivalry, I say it's a rivalry but not our chief rival. Like I said, I don't think it's a big deal it's going away. I’m not mad about it or anything. Just a little dissapointed we won't be playing them every year and the continuous playing streak is going to end.
