Future Big 12 FB Opponents/Schedule Announced

I just don't like that the longest continually played rivalry in ALL college football is going to end.

While K-State is not as heated a rival as iowa, it's still been played 106 straight seasons - through WWII and Covid. I would have thought it would make media/publicity sense for the league to want to push that. Especially if both teams are really good in the next few seasons. Put that game on Thanksgiving weekend and sell the crap out of it. Instead, both K-State and ISU get UCF in 2027 - that no one outside Ames, Manhattan, and a small part or Orlando will remotely care about.

That's why it doesn't make sense to me. The new Big 12 should be doing anything they can to promote rivalries and stories. ISU-KSU playing 106 straight times is one of those stories.
You can't lock K-State into two games every year and Kansas is, by far, the bigger rivalry.

I was just going to post similar. Don't sweat about losing Farmageddon in 2027, because by that time, the Big12 will add 4 more ACC schools and go to four 5-team pods (east, west, south, midwest) and a 4 team CCG format in Vegas.
This is my hope.

Discussion is going so fast I may have missed it...

but are there ZERO protected fb rivalries or just ISU has none?

In terms of "just win baby" a protected rivalry with Kansas State in football doesn't help us "just win".

Ditto for guaranteed home and home with KU in basketball to an even greater degree.

Are Utah and BYU going to skip years too?

ISU just has none. Very few protected matchup. I think I’m actually in favor of this.

I was hoping for an away game at UCF sooner than 2026. Sucks for me.

With pods you play everyone every other year. Will play home and away every 4 years with everyone in 16 team conf.

4 pods of 4. play your own pod, play 2 teams from each of the other 3 pods, then switch them the next year.

Simple

Put ISU, KSU, KU, and OSU or CU in a pod. Cant get much easier than that.
I kinda get what your saying but you lose me on this point. The schedule they released, everyone DOES play everyone 2x's (home/away) in 4 years.

So dumb. Here's your protected rivalries. This would've been so much simpler:

Cincinnati
Houston
UCF
West Virginia

Colorado
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State

Baylor
Oklahoma State
TCU
Texas Tech

Arizona
Arizona State
BYU
Utah
Your lips say “protected rivalries” but your post says “pods”

SEC and B1G teams “miss the big guys” every year and they benefit from it.

Hell, we bag on Iowa for ducking the best teams and here they are at 7-10 wins a year pretty consistently.

KState is primed to be a big dog in near future. Wouldn’t hurt us to miss them.

Hell, why have regular season games at all? Expand to three dozen and just start a season-long conference tournament Labor Day weekend.

Conferences are getting pointless by growing to the unwieldy point of ridiculousness. Yeah, yeah, TV drives the bus, but what the hell kind of “conference” has teams on both coasts and teams that only visit some other conference mates once every 5 or 6 years (I know, that’s not the B12 plan, but still) and century-old rivalries that get tossed out so a team can visit Orlando or Tempe instead?

Old guy yelling at cloud, I know, I know.

i mean it's hard to predict who will be a football power...but right now KSU and Utah are the most consistent with Baylor, OKSt and TCU having some inconsistency but really big upside years.

Not having one of them as a guaranteed game probably means more wins.

Even more with not having a home and home with KU in hoops, although we are going to have double digit solid basketball programs so it might not matter...unless you got UCF as the guaranteed home and away.

Where can I see who the rivals are? Ku/KSU, Utah/BYU, AZ/ASU and that's it? Cincy/WVU?

If we don't have a rival than none of the Texas schools or OKSt do. All of their SWC history is really scattered and weak compared to ISU/kSU/KU.

Overrrated take: KState rivalry pausing for atleast a year blows ass

Underrated take: Our 2025 schedule blows ass

Your last sentence is the key. After >100 years of playing the game there isn't a trophy. It's literally not a rivalry game. It has been growing towards one, slowly, but has never gotten to that point. It's a fun game and a "near rivalry game" if there was such a thing, but it just isn't a rivalry game.
Perfectly said. It’s a fun game because of our history and similarities…but most don’t want to win that game more than any other conference game. Not a true rivalry.

The final product isn't that far from what you suggested. We play our 3 biggest rivals (KU, KSU and OSU) each 3 times in 4 years. Someone else would have complained about ISU being in a pod with KU, KSU and OSU. With such a pod, where would Colorado go?

Sometimes you have to compromise. This was a good compromise.

It is really a rivalry or a series that has hung on forever, Rivalry means hate, hating fan bases, round up on the field type of chit, is see it as a series that has a neat little trophy because for years it was just a powder puff game with two real crappy teams, i can name rivalries and ISU/KSU dont come up in that discussion at all. BTW, 43, and love ISU football

I kinda get what your saying but you lose me on this point. The schedule they released, everyone DOES play everyone 2x's (home/away) in 4 years.
But you lose annual regional and historic games.

Somehow a few got to keep their annual rivals, but ISU gets screwed as usual.

We should copy the SEC and all schedule our FCS games in November collectively as a conference. There's a bigger penalty for losing late. It's just smart. Don't copy the 8 games part but copy the "week off" part by moving that FCS date.

Alabama gave a crappy effort against Georgia Southern the same day we knocked OK State out of the title game.

Programs will rise or fall but we are potentially looking a years where we can reasonably look at a schedule and be very hopeful for 9-10 wins (or more) given the luck of the schedule. We have never had that and have always bagged on Iowa as they cashed in win after win after win. Oh no we don’t play KSU for 1 year!

I personally will enjoy winning more (hopefully) than missing on out on KSU for a year or two.
