In memoriam of Brian Ferentz as Iowa's OC

I agree Iowa state has a tougher schedule no doubt. I just don't think Iowa's is as weak compared to all of college football as whats said. Georgia and Michigan two top 3 teams have both played weaker schedules and its November. Schedules across country have weakened with the larger conferences.
Just a down year in CFB as a whole I believe or maybe the transfer portal has watered things down some. Big 12 is down with Baylor and TCU both having rough years and the Big 10 West is the worst it has ever been and that is saying something.

True, but Michigan still has to play Penn State and Ohio State, Georgia still has 3 ranked teams in Missouri, Ol Miss and Tennessee, while EIU has NW, Nebraska, Rutgers and Illinois. Two schools are hitting the difficult part of their schedule while EIU's difficult part is behind them.

Every power 5 conference other than pac 12 has been underwhelming really. They went out with a bang

Before the season SOS is clickbait. B12 performed poorly in non conference as well so that already kinda throws out any preseason rankings. Iowa State got a tough draw though in b12 though no doubt about it. They missed UCF and Houston. Those would definitely be wins
Okay so that might be a factor this year. Can you explain each of the 20 years prior to that?

Those were just 2 because they're ranked so high. There's a lot of weak schedules though

Yeah during ISU’s winning streak under Dan every Iowa fan said kirk’s teams improve the most so not fair they are forced to play ISU in September. Game didn’t really count.

Then in 2001 the game got moved to the last of the year because of 911 and they still lost.

Worst excuse in history of losing excuses.
Weather delay.

Actually even if KF somehow pushed her out, doing what an AD would do in a normal program probably means she has improved her resume if she wants the job at a better school.
Agree.
The possible downside of this move within the small coaching fraternity is that she’ll be known as an AD who will go around you and fire members of your staff. While we see that it was merited, it would be interesting to see what other head coaches think about it.

Talking about ranking among P5 teams, not all D1 teams.

At the start of this season, ISU's schedule was ranked the 8th most difficult among P5 teams and Iowa's was ranked the 3rd easiest. It's that way virtually every year.
Ok well even if the #1-#64 SoS's were comprised solely of P5 programs, which they're not, Iowa's SoS would still be in the top-half 5 out of the last 7 seasons. Broader point remains, saying Iowa consistently plays one of the weakest schedules in the country isn't backed up by the numbers.

Nearly every conference is two-three very good teams and then a bunch of average teams.

The exception being the Pac 12 that has multiple good teams and then a bunch of capable teams. Which is of course, fitting since they're done after this season.

The resurrection of the Pac 12 makes all this realignment even more stupid than it was before. Washington/Oregon played the game of the year so far and the Pac 12 is a very deep conference this year. Wish it wasn't going away.

Iowa has not been good at winning against Top 25 teams -- something like 3-18 since 2016. A blow out win over Ohio State has been it's best win in seven years

An Iowa fan once told me that Iowa State would not do well playing in the B1g Ten West because Iowa State can not beat Iowa on a consistent basis.

If any Iowa fan agrees with that statement, than it follows that Iowa is not close -- even with serviceable offense -- to being a Top Tier National team because they cannot beat Top 25 teams consistently

Iowa has definitely struggled when they play the better teams. You have to score some points to beat those teams. Also though they've done really well for most part in same period when they play equal level teams to below them. That's not easy also. Iowa state on other ends has upset some good teams and then lost to teams they should definitely of beaten. I think either is equally infuriating because we all want to win them all of course
