***2023-24 MLB Off-Season Thread***

I don’t recall a more unassuming and unknown WS team than this season’s DBacks. I am not a hardcore MLB fan but I do follow the game on a daily basis and the only DBacks player I was truly aware of prior to the post season was Carroll. They are the third team in history to make the WS with a regular season negative run differential.
I saw a graphic earlier -- in 2021, TX and ARI combined for 212 losses.
Now they're both in the World Series.
I don't think anyone saw this matchup coming at the beginning of the season. Or even the beginning of the postseason. It probably won't get great ratings, but that'd be a shame. Both teams have some fun young players (as well as a few players who have been around a bit). I'm a Rangers fan, so I'm emotionally invested and hope for them to get their first World Series trophy, but am also just really happy they got this far after the last two seasons of misery.

Yep. Called it. F*** my life. Why did I pick the teams I have (Magic, Snakes, Mutts, AZ Cardinals, and JAX)?
It's only Game 1, but like Game 1 of the 1995 NBA Finals, I am expecting a sweep at this point.
It's my 37th birthday today. My Dad died this year (our relationship was bad the last two years but he still my Dad), I lost my job 7 months ago (still unemployed), my girlfriend is a selfish c***, and you were two outs away from taking Game 1. You had one job!!!
And the Kings just tied it up 4-4 vs the Mutts after the Mutts being up being up 4-1 in the 1st period.
At least my Magic won tonight. Now 2-0.

Hang in there. I’m with you. I remember being crushed by the Nick Anderson missed free throws for Orlando. My Dad also passed away in 2014 and I remember being crushed by the the Niang injury in March Madness. However, I also remember the good times of Ejims huge game vs TCU, the OT thriller vs OSU and the Big12 tournament run. Don’t let the losses ruin the good times. Being a fan of an underdog is much more rewarding than being a fan of a team that dominates.
Thanks man. I needed that. Trust me, as a sports fan, I am hanging in there.
But at the same time with all my teams, I feel SO CLOSE, yet so far away (ISU 2020 Big XII Championship, 2004/2005 Big XII North, Magic 1995/2009 Finals, Cardinals Superbowl XVIII, JAX AFC Title 1997/1999/2017, and Mutts WCF 2012).
The optimist in me says that all of my teams will win at least one championship in my lifetime before I die in the next (ideally) 50 years or so.
The Magic winning the NBA Finals will be the greatest moment of my life when it happens, unless, of course, Iowa State wins the National Championship.

That’s a bummer. It was a great Game 1.
I don't see it that way. Competitive advantages for small market teams have a cost. If you're going to penalize the big market teams you have to deal with the consequences.
