In memoriam of Brian Ferentz as Iowa's OC

What’s he going to do? He’s a football coach. If he retires he’ll be dead in 2 years.
I think he'll go hardcore into raising money for the Children's Hospital.

The guys that die quick are the ones that have defined their entire personal worth by being football coaches. I think the Children's Hospital became Kirk's second mission after they lost that granddaughter.

Those of you office fans, I think of this conversation like the disciplinary convo between David Wallace, Michael, and Dwight, after dwight lit the place on fire

Michael Scott: (KF)
Dwight. We are not mad, we are just disappointed.

David Wallace: (BG)
No, we are mad.

Michael Scott:
Yes, we are. We are livid. But we are going to let this one slide.

Dwight Schrute: (BF, clearly)
Thank you.

David Wallace:
No, we're not.
Someone with tech skills needs to do this

Agree, but the optics are still terrible.
Nah, sorry, you're wrong on this. She's the only one who could fire or retain Brian Ferentz.

Kirk, Gary Barta, and Brian Ferentz have turned Iowa football into a national punchline. KF has had the AD and athletic department in his back pocket for 20+ years, never having to worry about anything being done with Iowa football that he didn't want done. It's become a national story how f*cked up the Iowa program is because of the nepotism. Goetz stepping up and making it clear that she's not going to be Kirk's lapdog the way Barta was is a fantastic look and a necessary step.

I’m already missing Gary Barta’s “above average is plenty good” philosophy. Kind of annoying that they almost never suck, but that beats them taking a chance to actually be great at something some time.

From that angle, I would agree. I guess I should say it’s sad that it took the AD doing it, but she did right.

Sorry, I have to disagree.

Of course Kirk could fire Brian if he wanted to. Of course he could announce it if he wanted to. Kirk could have replaced brian with any new OC at any time if he wanted to.

This points to him not wanting this decision and it being made for him, and he's not on board with it. Otherwise Kirk would have been making the announcement.
