Trent Condon

Don't know anything about that, I casually watch them when I'm not watching ISU.

I don't even like Trent Condon but it was a bad call. I'm not allowed to express my opinion on forum that was created for the purpose of sharing opinions?
It was the correct call, based on the rule book. Sorry that you can't see that through your black and gold glasses.

All this just points out the hypocrisy of Iowa fans. For years, when a call went against Iowa State, Iowa fans would just rip on Iowa State fans for complaining. "Should have played better", "It shouldn't have come down to that," "Don't put yourself in that position." "One call doesn't decide a game."

Karma is sweet

Here's the issue. Condon called the ref "crooked" immediately on Twitter. He's doubled down on continuing to try and craft a narrative around the ref.

The call falls into a grey area. You can not like the call, you can not like the review process, but within the letter of the rule there's at least a rational basis for calling it. But to, as a public figure, immediately go to the ref being "crooked" is totally reckless by him.

And on brand.

Some of you are maybe too young to remember, but there was a respected NCAA men's basketball ref who could never come back to Iowa because he was afraid for his life after a call he made.

And I'm typically in that camo for ISU even in some bad situations.

Iowa got the ball back at mid field with 1:30 left.

The chance was beyond there to get two first downs and kick the FG.

Condon is an idiot and I can't stand him.

It's funny to me, you can read any football or basketball game thread here and people are constantly questioning officials. But now all of a sudden everyone is an expert on all the rules and want officiating to inject themselves into grey areas.

Did Cooper DeJean wave his left arm, yes or no?

Are you really trying to suggest it's a cut-and-dried no call? Again, if anything it's a grey area and grey area calls effect the outcome of games all the time. It's inherent in sports.

At this point, those claiming it was a bad call are just proving that they don't know the rules or too biased to want to look them up. There are still people saying his arm wasn't above his head, so it wasn't a fair catch signal. Duh. And there's some still saying it wasn't reviewable. The only mistake the refs actually made was not blowing the play dead right away.

I thought it was kind of a lame call, and I would have been absolutely livid if ISU was on the other end of it. It's also pretty clearly the right call by the letter of the law.

An ISU corollary, IMO, would be X's excessive celebration against the Pokes a few years back. It could technically be called, but it was just kind of ********.

The extent that Iowa fans, and especially Condon, have gone to whine, construct conspiracy theories, and basically dox the officials is absolutely ******* ridiculous and hits at some deeper problem in those people.

It was the correct call. The rule was applied as written.

Is it a call that should have been made? Based on how often it's called, no, it should not have been made.

Was it the correct call? Yup.

I agree. I do think the excessive celebration call is more of a judgement call and therefore it is easier to argue that it shouldn't have been called. The punt thing is more cut and dry and it seems like it is actually called.

The point that irritates me is the Iowa fans (and to be fair CW ;)) going on and on about how they shouldn't have called it because it was such an amazing return.

Its almost never called because it almost never happens. Most returners are aware of the rule, and even if they aren't they would very rarely risk picking up a rolling punt after they had waved teammates away from it.
