I truly don't think these are talented inviduals also though. At least most recent ones. The scheme is bad which causes some of the regression but petras/padilla/hill/hogan and probably throw labas in mix are bad talent evaluations.

They all have one thing in common, they are stationary targets. Iowa hasn't had a true mobile QB since Beathard and look what they did? Then look how they did with Stanzi, Banks and Tate. Truly mind blowing that KF refuses to go after QBs that can run.
Also, how good was Stanley in retrospect? He put up pretty good numbers considering he was a statue as well.
The Minnesota defenders were 100% playing the ball at that point and not the returner. It was pretty clear that MN had let up and was slow to reacting when Cooper picked up the ball.
Buddy, im not just talking about the ones over the last 3-4 years. Look at the Brad Banks. Dude would have been an NFL draft pick had he gone anywhere else. Stanzi, Stanley, Vandenburg. All played in the system, and all regressed. Some more than others of course, but UI has a big problem developing QB's
Did OKeefe step down before last season? He, to me, has always seemed like the only one that's been able to operate the offense differently under Ferentz. He also had far more dynamic QBs running the show with Banks, Tate, and Stanzi. Beathard was GDGD I think?
Stanley had a great arm. Thought he could have made it to the next level. But, he wasnt allowed to showcase it much

No one else wanted Brad Banks and he was very raw. I think the coaching staff did a good job with him. Stanley and Stanzi didn't regress either. Vandenburg did after O'Keefe left and they brought in Greg Davis.
Great arm but seldom on target. I don't think he could have gone to many places in the P5 and been a three year starter like he was at Iowa. He was a good QB for Iowa's standards, but doubt he could have gotten on the field at better programs.
Stop recruiting based on height, weight and arm strength, and start looking at decision making and accuracy. Kirk's QBs look like mannequins from a big & tall store, but with less mobility.
Also, it has to be tough recruiting a QB for a run-first offense. Multiply that by 10 with the level of infamy Iowa is getting around their OC and their offensive ineptitude. My god, Ryan Nanni has a whole weekly blog about it.

I thought Petras broke all of Goff's records from high school and was highly recruited. I have no idea but I know I heard something like that.
I think this is the issue with the coaching of QBs into oblivion. They are taught to never turn that over. If the route is outside, send it high so only your guy can get it and if it floats it's OB. Then if it's over the middle make it low so that if your guy doesn't catch it it won't end up in the safety's hands. Basically the concepts that Iowa's defense is built to capitalize on. So none of these QBs are ever accurate.
I've heard the same but I dont think he was heavily sought after even though I think recruiting sites evaluated him highly. I believe Iowa and Oregon State was his top 2
