Creighton Closed Scrimmage

We are on record for the opposite. Just sayin'.

Yeah and I myself am excited for the season to start and think there's some good potential; so far TJ has been outstanding at plug and play so I'm confident in that continuing.

I'm just not one to assume a Final Four or conference title are just going to happen because of a Thanksgiving tourney or a couple of good wins in January.

Who is saying this?

I mentioned in some other threads that it’s hard to argue we shouldn’t be top 25 (looking at teams you’d have to rank above us) and got almost universal condemnation. Mostly based on the ncaa game last year, like “how dare you”.

Yeah now that part is just stupid. By now anyone who follows college basketball should know that an NCAA tourney game has virtually nothing to do with what happened before it, or after it especially in the era of the constant rebuild/load.

I.e., how many times has a team seemed to be cruising in playing some good ball only to fall flat on their face, or just the opposite?

I don't know if ISU is top 25 material right now and don't really care. Have a generally fun season with a tourney bid and I'm content.

It’s not so much “we are great” as I can go through teams 15-25 and find as many or more unknowns with all of them and most don’t have the same projected talent coming in. Some higher than that even.

I also think Lipsey is being slept on when I compare his advanced stats as a freshman to other elite big 12 pgs of the past decade or two. He compares favorably.

I still find the lack of optism for this year puzzling. Not that everyone is pessimistic, but some certainly are.

Every team pretty much shuffles the deck every year now. Losing a lot or bringing a lot back is antiquated thinking.
1. We have coaching stability and a guy who has proven himself
2. We have had some success safely getting in tournament two consecutive years including a S16 and a disappointing first round blowout…still safely in.
3. Top Ten recruiting class
4. Very good transfer class
5. A Top ten home venue in college basketball
6. Outside shooters for first time under Otz (the glaring weakness of the past two teams who still made NCAA without them)

I just don’t understand if there could ever be a year to be optimistic if it isn’t this year. You can even find examples of really average middling teams getting hyped because they return average players, that’s archaic thinking.

Exactly. Arguably there is as much reason to be optimistic about this squad as there was for the ‘21 football team!

That seems really good for a game before the season that had zero stakes.

What did Creighton lose from last year?

Preseason Top 10. Returned potential All-American candidates in Trey Alexander and Ryan Kalkbrenner plus Baylor $chiermann back for a 5th year. Lost Nembhard to the portal but replaced him with Steven Ainsworth who averaged an efficient 16 ppg at Utah State last year.

Would of liked more info but on the surface this is a very encouraging results for ISU.

Yeah maybe it pans out and maybe it doesn’t but it’s there and very few programs have more indicators for optimism.
