Creighton Closed Scrimmage

I still find the lack of optism for this year puzzling. Not that everyone is pessimistic, but some certainly are.

Every team pretty much shuffles the deck every year now. Losing a lot or bringing a lot back is antiquated thinking.
1. We have coaching stability and a guy who has proven himself
2. We have had some success safely getting in tournament two consecutive years including a S16 and a disappointing first round blowout…still safely in.
3. Top Ten recruiting class
4. Very good transfer class
5. A Top ten home venue in college basketball
6. Outside shooters for first time under Otz (the glaring weakness of the past two teams who still made NCAA without them)

I just don’t understand if there could ever be a year to be optimistic if it isn’t this year. You can even find examples of really average middling teams getting hyped because they return average players, that’s archaic thinking.
Good post. And while it’s tempting to say next year will be even better because we will return most of this year’s young team, you just don’t know. There’s only 200 minutes to split across a lot of capable players so some are probably going to be disappointed in their role. In today’s college basketball you have to look at each year independently.

At least the doctor and lawyer grads from Creighton aren't ####### their money away on Nebraska basketball.

The annual promise of “improved O line play” has jaded a lot of people probably. I need to see better 3 pt shooting before taking it for granted. Same with FTs.
The OL thing is real. And I think we are all excited, but we will be young and SO much different this year. None of us are sure of how good we are going to be because of it.

Need to get some games in and see what they have.

Then see how the 2nd (conference) season shakes out.

I'm excited though.

True. Just as true for all but maybe 5 to 10 teams in all of NCAA basketball. Most of which have far less going for them in the positive side.

Youth sure. There's definitely potential to have too much youth and not enough experience or grown man strength at times.

Change? I really don't think you can use change as a negative word anymore in college basketball. If a team doesn't change at all it could mean they're getting passed up these days. Turnover isn't bad anymore it's almost required to not get passed up.

My guess is we don't have any more change than any team has that hopes to be top 25 caliber needs in this new era...and our freshman/transfer class we're changing with is better than most on paper at least for this year.

My main point is that a lot of people have a mindset where no fan of any cbb team should ever be optimistic of any team ever again...or they could change expectations to reflect the new world of college sports.

Even that isn't some sort of guarantee.

A lot can happen over the course of a 4-5 month season and hopefully people are able to understand that this season (likely wishful thinking).

It's more of a random guess than ever...and by every metric available that matters for making that guess, ISU is in really solid position right now this season. Not down the road. Now. (I mean hopefully down the road too, but it doesn't have to be.)

Not saying we are KU, but there aren't dozens of teams in better position on paper. We're talking more like maybe a dozen singular.

All your points are good ones, and I love talking BB, even when the FB season is still going and has plenty of excitement of its own!

I love this year's roster. A lot of depth and lineup combinations available for TJ.

Feel like there is no reason to be pessimistic because TJ has developed a hard nosed mindset that emphasizes defense and rebounding. Over a 30+ game season, I think TJ's culture will win a lot of games with solid talent.

We were an NCAA Tournament teams his first 2 years, with less depth and overall talent. No reason to expect the Clones aren't a top 20 team.

I'm jonesing for some Cyclone hoops!! Feel like a 10 year old on December 23.
