Baylor

The Big 12 is separating a little bit. This upcoming week will bring some more clarity to the upper and lower groups.

Right now as things look, ISU has 2 games remaining against upper teams (UT, KSU), 2 games against middle teams (BYU, KU), and BU, who apart from a significant 2nd-half-of-the-season rebound, looks like they might be in the lower group. If ISU wants to be an upper group team, this seems like one they have to win.

Baylor on Offense is a very poor rushing team.

They also give up a good number of sacks, although we are 117th in Def sacks. Although it is interesting if we are dropping 7-8 in coverage how we seem to give up WAY too many QB Scrambles for big chunks on 3rd downs.

It killed us at Ohio.
It was a problem vs Okie St and at OU (although containing Gabriel is not an easy task).
Cincy didn’t do much against us, but Jones converted 3-4 1st downs on long scrambles.

Please contain the pocket, spy the QB, and grab some INTs from this inaccurate and less than Mobile QB

I trust Heacock coming off a bye week to have our guys dialed in.

Baylor on defense has been getting gashed by big plays, both on the ground and in the air. Look for the Cyclones to cash in on more than a few big chunk plays. 30+ yards. Get into the 2nd level on runs and hit those WR’s in stride on those quick hitters and crossing routes. Can Higgins have another big day? You bet!

Trust Heacock will keep them in check enough, maybe a couple of turnovers and our offense to be explosive enough to win.

Something noteworthy I thought was the fact that Cincinnati ran the ball for 288 yards. If we see the same week to week improvement from the OL, I don't think its impossible to think that ISU could put up 180+ yards on the ground. But, they'll have to continue to air it out to open up run lanes. I like Sanders/Hansen/Sama to have a big game here

Campbell has to be salivating looking at those rushing numbers Cinci put on Baylors defense

Agree w the consensus that Baylor is not good. Cincy should have beat them handily, but lost in the margins.

So ISU should be 15-20 points better than Baylor. ISU usually performs well on the road.

My only worries are:
1. CMC teams have been dicey off bye weeks iirc
2. Jobbed by the refs (Verdon hets booted for targeting, 15 PI penalties, etc)

I'll add in

3. turnovers
4. in-game injury at key position

I agree with the consensus that on paper, we should win this game. Both by stats and season trajectory, but fluke things happen every week.

I think the game is going to come down to containing Baylor's passing game and getting pressure on Shapen. BU is terrible running the ball (2.8 npc, 123rd in nation... yikes!). So they like to throw the ball... a lot. They are 11th in the nation in pass attempts per game, but only 43rd in yards/attempt. Also, BU's front 7 on defense is big time bad. If Cyclones can contain the pass, consistently get off the field, avoid ST mental errors, they should able to to grind out some long scoring drives and get a solid, conference road win in gloriously boring, Campbell-ball fashion.
