F*CK IOWA

Went to bed with a schadenfreude induced smile on my face. It's still there after taking a quick glance at Go Iowa Awesome this morning. Salty b*tches as far as the eye can see.

My ideal scenario is they lose to Nebraska causing them to miss the Big 10 title game. And their fans stay forever convinced that had it not been for the "crooked refs" picking on Cooper's naturally flamboyant running style, the Hawkeyes would have been in the playoffs with their elite defense and special teams.
It would be great if they lose to Nebby with the offense sputtering in epic fashion, but then later that week Wisconsin also loses and forces Iowa to go be a sparring partner for Michigan and lose by 50+.

Someone posted a still picture on here as well with both arms well above his shoulders. I have no idea what legitimate purpose he had for flapping his arms around like that.
Looked to me in real time like he was trying to wave to tell his teammates to get out of the way due to the short punt while he was pointing up at the ball.

It seems like he did everything that you would do in an instance of a fair catch but wave his hand over his head. Seems kind of unfair to the kicking team because you can see the gunners essentially slow down assuming that it was fair caught.

Cooper and Kirk both said it wasn't a wave, it was just Cooper maintaining his balance while he was running. Watch the video and try not to laugh at that explanation.
Any ******** about that call and not being asked the follow up of “after the call… where were you on the field, how much time was on the clock, how many timeouts did you have left, and how many points did you need to win” is bad journalism.

What's really funny is, this call is the best thing to happen to the Ferentz family this season. It bought even more loyalty from a fanbase who's identity is tied to the w/l record of the team. They never get beat, they either get screwed over or the other team just treated the game like their super bowl.

Does Kirk stick around either way? Isn't he around 70? I've seen their schedule for next year. Does he want to actually face what most other P5 teams go through on a semi regular basis or does he pack up his millions and ride off into the sunset with his legacy largely intact? Brian won't get another high level coordinator job but he can make a nice living as a P5 or NFL O line coach. He'll be fine, and if not there's always subsidized housing.

If I'm Kirk, I'm getting the hell out of town before the locals show up with torches and pitchforks.
Freerents has a rather large ego, and is used to getting his way, so when people are telling him he should step aside, he is going to do the opposite to show them that he still can coach.

He is also 4th all-time for wins by a B10 coach at the start of the season and can move into the 2nd spot next year, he would therefore not be far away from the most wins ever by a B10 coach, things like that look nice on the resume. He already has the most losses of any B10 coach, but people will let that slide. Last point is his winning percentage is a few points under 60% needed to get elected to the college football HOF as a coach. Having another 8-to-9-win season or two gets him to the needed 60% thereby making him eligible to get in.

Crooked refs??? Fran has something to say about that.

Let's be honest...call sucked for Iowa and that kind of stuff normally happens to ISU so I get it....that being said - 1. Should never have come down to that and 2. If we're going to have a "luckiest season ever" competition, Iowa still is off the charts #1. The amount of games teams just give them wins is mind boggling.
Look at Iowa’s TD drive: Minn with the unnecessary face mask when they stopped Hill on 3rd down. PI next play. Stop them on 3rd and goal from the 1 only to swat the ball and give them 1st and inches.

To be a valid fair catch he has to wave his arm head high or higher, the kid looked like he was telling teammates to get away from the ball, thereby making it an invalid catch according to the rules and the officials. He still gets protection either way.
I have never seen something like that called in a game, where the player is signaling other players to stay away, he then picked up the ball and scored. I would guess if it does happen, the player picking up the ball is tackled, and then no one cares about the invalid fair catch signal, it only mattered here because he scored.

Just glad that EIU lost the game, but I did think they got screwed, which makes it even better.
How did they get screwed?

Meh Iowa’s defense is solid but let’s get serious, the QB play in the B1G is awful. Iowa feasts on weak offense.
This is the point that is crushing to Iowa fans. You will hear them say “if we had a semi-competent offense we’d be competing for national championships.” No. You. Wouldn’t. They do have a very good defense and have put a lot of guys in the NFL. But they do not have an elite defense. They just benefit greatly from playing against a bad offense 10 or 11 games every year.

How did they get screwed?
Flip it around, if that had happened to ISU yesterday, how many people on here would be saying the refs got it right and it was the correct call? Very few would be, yes according to the rule book he made an invalid fair catch signal, but crap like that happens all the time, and is never called. The difference was this time the kid scored a touchdown.

Did the official throw his beanbag down indicating the play was dead marking the spot of the ball, why was the official not blowing his whistle after it was caught, saying he had called a fair catch.? Why did they allow the play to continue at all if there was a fair catch?

We all loved that it happened to EIU, I know I do, but damn, we can also admit, it was a little shady, but by the book. I will try to remember that the next time something like that happens to ISU. The refs called it according to the rule book, and therefore its correct.

Also, how are you not last in passing when your QB had a 39% completion rate?

Bottom 6 passing (#128-133) YPG in FBS:

Nebraska - 133.7
Minnesota - 131.9
Army - 129.0
Iowa - 116.5
Navy - 99.7
Air Force - 88.4

Three B1G West schools and the three service academies.

Also hilarious: Air Force has thrown 33 passes all season (<5 per game) and only has 1 fewer TD pass than Iowa.

A lot of their classy “fans” are ok with throwing cans and bottles on the field and at the visitors bench. Some of the sane ones are not. I hope the big 10 fines those clowns.

A lot of things are overshadowed by that reversed call, WHICH WAS THE CORRECT CALL…

The all time horrible offense. This classless fan behavior. The fact that BF doesn’t ever have to talk to the media and justify his ineptitude. Being able to be that bad at offense and still having a chance to win because the teams on the schedule are basically MAC level competition.

No, it's not called very often, but that is because players who wave their arms and signal an invalid fair catch don't end up scoring touchdowns very often.

The refs made the correct call and it wasn't the least bit shady.
