F*CK IOWA

This is worst case scenario for Iowa fans. If Kirk stays, Brian stays. If Brian leaves, Kirk leaves. They have a national reputation for being absolutely garbage for offense. And would Phil Parker be around if the Ferentz crew left? I doubt it.

This is what I don’t get. Every Iowa fan I know has a chubby for Lavar Woods and have him tagged as the next HC. He may be a fine coach and a future HC, but I don’t understand why he is still there. Why hasn’t he left to get more experience perhaps as a coordinator. He can always return when Kirk hangs it up. He won’t get coordinator experience in Iowa City (and anyone with a brain would stay away from that OC position with Kirk still there). Jumping from special teams to HC is a huge leap.

You are supposed to read the right to left. FNA . . . . Farmers Need Ames

I've been saying all along, Kirk will leave after this year. I'm now beginning to rethink it only due to the huge amount of money he's still owed if he stays.

He won't leave until he is kicked out or they make BF HC. Similar to what KSU struggled with at Snyder's end. Unfortunately, BF is SO bad it is hard to see how it happens. However, do not under estimate the power earning millions/year has on people.

Looking at the rule it was an invalid fair catch, meaning that DeJean's motioning of the arm meant the officials should have whistled the play dead and not allowed a return. That is what the rule book says, I do not have a problem with it.
But by the same token, if one of the Minnesota players had light him up after he caught the ball, they would not have thrown a flag.

Believe me I hate EIU more than most, but it was a horrible call, I am not jaded enough to not say that. I loved it, but let's get real here, no way was Dejeans' going to fair catch the ball in that situation.

If he fielded the ball and made no attempt to advance it before getting lit up, I wholeheartedly believe a flag would have been thrown.

I also believe the entire Hawkeye fanbase would have flipped their argument saying he clearly signaled for a fair catch had that occurred.

Does Kirk stick around either way? Isn't he around 70? I've seen their schedule for next year. Does he want to actually face what most other P5 teams go through on a semi regular basis or does he pack up his millions and ride off into the sunset with his legacy largely intact? Brian won't get another high level coordinator job but he can make a nice living as a P5 or NFL O line coach. He'll be fine, and if not there's always subsidized housing.

If I'm Kirk, I'm getting the hell out of town before the locals show up with torches and pitchforks.

Is there video of the wave in question? I haven’t seen any posted anywhere.
Someone posted a still picture on here as well with both arms well above his shoulders. I have no idea what legitimate purpose he had for flapping his arms around like that.

Do replay officials have to deem what they are reviewing for on a scoring play or is anything fair game? I honestly do not know. I think most rational Hawkeye fans understand the rule but Ferentz was questioning how they went from reviewing out of bounds to the invalid signal.

No, they’re free to review all aspects of a scoring play. They’re even allowed to correct “obvious errors” that are normally not reviewable if they have a significant impact on the game.

Only thing they are not allowed to review are penalties not deemed “reviewable” by the rulebook.

That's pretty much the difference between a valid and invalid fair catch. Valid provides protection, invalid does not. It literally does not matter his intent. He waved his arm, so he signaled a fair catch.
To be a valid fair catch he has to wave his arm head high or higher, the kid looked like he was telling teammates to get away from the ball, thereby making it an invalid catch according to the rules and the officials. He still gets protection either way.
I have never seen something like that called in a game, where the player is signaling other players to stay away, he then picked up the ball and scored. I would guess if it does happen, the player picking up the ball is tackled, and then no one cares about the invalid fair catch signal, it only mattered here because he scored.

Just glad that EIU lost the game, but I did think they got screwed, which makes it even better.

It's been awhile but one of the last CPR games against UNI we had a TD called on the field, they intended to review whether or not the runner stepped out of bounds as he was diving for the pylon but after reviewing, they ended up calling a fumble and giving them the ball.

Went to bed with a schadenfreude induced smile on my face. It's still there after taking a quick glance at Go Iowa Awesome this morning. Salty b*tches as far as the eye can see.

My ideal scenario is they lose to Nebraska causing them to miss the Big 10 title game. And their fans stay forever convinced that had it not been for the "crooked refs" picking on Cooper's naturally flamboyant running style, the Hawkeyes would have been in the playoffs with their elite defense and special teams.

Wasn’t he only the interim after Jerry kill had to resign due to health? Fleck was the “hot” young coach at the time and just had an 13 win season at WMU.

I thought the team had some off field issues and he took the fall for it.

I have heard that EIU treats their assistant coaches very well, good pay and freerents allows them to coach their position without much interference on his part. Woods has a stable job, is moving up the coaching chain, does not have to worry about getting fired and is still young. The guy could have a bright future in coaching, and he is setting the foundation for that now. He started out I believe as running the special teams and now is asst. defensive coordinator, he also played at EIU so maybe he figures if he sticks around, he could be in line for the head job, he is only 45 years old.

Let's be honest...call sucked for Iowa and that kind of stuff normally happens to ISU so I get it....that being said - 1. Should never have come down to that and 2. If we're going to have a "luckiest season ever" competition, Iowa still is off the charts #1. The amount of games teams just give them wins is mind boggling.

NO NO NO……the Sukeyes DID NOT get screwed. It was the correct call !
Every official last night and this morning that has commented on it says the same thing.
It ABSOLUTELY was the correct way to handle it…..officials got it right. Screw the Sukeyes
