Iowa Beat Writers

IDK, the Big 10 record against the team's they have beat is pretty impressive:

0-3 Michigan St
1-3 Purdue
2-1 Wisconsin (wins over Rutgers and Purdue)
Soon to be 1-3 Minnesota

That is a combined record of 4-10 for their opponents conference wins before 11/4 at Wrigley Field. Hilarious how Hawk fans are blinded by the dog$hi* divisional records.

The media isn't even trying to make excuses for it this year. They are all acknowledging how absolutely awful Iowa's slate is this year.

The Big easy East is heads and shoulders above the West, with annually the top three teams in the conference being on the east side.

But I still see EIU fans making the statement that if you compare the two sides of the conference its almost even with a slight lead to the east side. Hell someone was saying how close the conference records were between EIU and Penn State, again forgetting that Penn State plays Ohio State and Michigan every year, while EIU has played the two schools only 5 times combined since 2015, I am not counting the Michigan/EIU championship game. While Penn State has played those schools 16 times over the same time period.
I don't disagree with any of that. I'm not making that comparison though. It's more that with today's big conferences its not unusual to play a schedule like Iowa's. Most years it's going to be middle of power 5. A poster maybe you? Has made the point that a team gets to win the West which is unusual today with a lot of divisions going away. I do agree that's an unfair benefit. The 4th at best team gets a chance to play in the championship isn't really fair. Big 12 when it went to 10 devised the best and fairest way to crown the champion no question.

Iowa's weak AF schedule is not the norm. Not even close.

That is true if you play on the West side of the conference, but not true for those on the East side. What years has Maryland and Rutgers missed playing Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State since they entered the league? I see a lot of years when EIU missed playing at least two of them, and have never played all three in the same year.

Agreed but you're talking about probably the very top of strength of schedule ranks every year. I'm not arguing that Iowa's is tougher I'm arguing vs all of P5. I'll give you a comparison in your own conference. Kansas State.

You are trying to use one year of KSU to compare to a decade of the west? That’s twisting things hard.

You are comparing a one off to how many years of weak a$$ B1G West football?

They'll have to hype the **** outta the Big 10 champ game though.....can't wait to hear about Iowa's vaunted defense, especially after the high school teams they end the season with....

Offensive yards per game rank for remaining games (out of 130)
Illinois: 82
Nebraska: 101
Rutgers: 110
Minnesota: 118
Northwestern: 119

For reference, Iowa offense is 130th out of 130 in yards per game.

Going to be a lot of low 30 point over/unders the rest of the way and you should probably take the under in all of them.

Last year I'd imagine Iowa was more difficult again compared to some big 12 teams. Maybe not Kansas State off top my head and certainly not all but if we looked at SOS rankings I'd bet they'd be ahead of some of the Big 12. Iowa played 2 of the final top 4 remember

I'd love to know the final conference record of Iowa wins over the last several seasons.

Since the win against Ohio St 6 years ago, I'd bet they have beat teams with a combined conference record of .444 (implied 4-5 record) or worse

To be fair I honestly haven't seen many Iowa fans claim to be good or beat their chests outside of the absolute morons on Twitter. I know all of my Iowa friends think it's an absolute joke.
Had one tell me today that the hoks have an easier time to wrap up the west with only 2 away games and one of those at Wrigley field. He told me how tough it has been for them to win the games as the west is so tough.

And the big 12 played 4 of the top 4 (all of them) remember?

When was the last time a B1G championship game winner came out of the West Division (not including the now defunct Leader/Legends divisions)?
