What Has Changed Since Ohio Loss?

We were much better in non-con than in conference play.

It’s the outlier of the Campbell era, but it happened nonetheless

I'm not sure I'd say much better as far as level of play is concerned.

It just kind of plateaued after a soft non-conand from what I can tell the leadership from one key position (along with terrible OL play) may have been one factor in holding things back.

I think the team stopped puking their guts out and have played teams with worse defenses than Iowa and Oklahoma. Those things alone will make your offense look better, then add in a little more experience for a brand new QB and there is the formula.

I was as hard on the coaches as anyone after Ohio, but the play calling on offense seems to have changed tremendously. If this type of play calling was used in the Iowa game and Ohio game we probably would have won. Granted the young players might not have been up to it yet by Iowa but I think the whole fan base views this team differently at 4-2 with only losses to Iowa and Oklahoma

Not going to pretend to read through all of he past posts, but its a combination of few things.

1. Don't have guys out sick
2. we ran the ball up the middle 50 times for no yards at ohio and didn't adapt AT ALL. Still only allowed 10 points and somehow lost.
3. OSU and TCU are really not that good,
Edit: 4. We are getting better and starting to figure things out.

Isn't it possible that the reason things have looked better (outside of the OU game) is the other two teams you played aren't as good as Ohio? (and also got to play them at home)

Suprised Neal is still starting, he's been bad the whole year. I can't believe there isn't anyone else to play LT who will at least put their hands on someone. I feel like he whiffs on the majority of run plays.

If you had to sum up the state of and or disappointment of where our offensive line talent is you start there. It's bad enough that he sucks that bad but it's infinitely worse if he's the "best we"ve got" for that position.

Scary stuff.

I haven’t read much in this thread but to me it appears that Campbell is no longer calling the plays. Or scheelhause is no longer calling them, but I would guess campbell.

I've read some of the comments. My opinion is that the OL has stopped making false start and holding penalties in critical situations. At Ohio, 5 penalties for 50 yards, and against TCU 1 penalty for 15 yards. That is a huge difference. The OL is moving away from awful towards average, and hopefully continues to progress to be slightly better than average. With the new variety of sets and plays, more passing early in possessions to open up more running (getting people out of the box) also is a change that is positive. I was disgusted by Iowa moving more people into the box and even jumping up and down when they recognized exactly what the play was and we ran right into it. Now we change plays and are more un-predictable. But the biggest is the line has gone from being bad and hurting us with penalties to not doing penalties and being somewhat more effective blocking.

It's possible but a healthy ISU team likely at least squeaks out a win.

The B12 is bad but so is everyone else. I don't care either way--any win is good no matter the season.

People running down OSU and TCU...they arent terrible teams. They are good, not great. Certainly not elite. ISU falls into that good not great category too rn.

So does most of the rest of the schedule. Texas is elite, and KSU might be great. But the rest are certainly winnable if ISU plays well.

Yes, this. People may not like to read this, but the teams we have lost to have a combined 16-2 record right now. Ohio has one of the best stop rates in the country defensively.

Yep...and who outside of maybe a team or two in the Pac 12 or B1G East doesn't have a similar situation with college football being down across the board?

And really, when was the last time the Big 12 slate was daunting for ISU?
