*** Official IOWA STATE vs #14 Oklahoma Game(Day) Thread ***

I'm not sure what people expected here. We were not going in there with a freshmen qb and winning this game. They brought a ton of pressure, we managed it ok sometimes but mostly got blown up.

Defense, yeah it wasn't great, but so what. Heacock will get it right.

I actually saw some improvement at times on the o line. First glimmer of hope in several years there.

Rest of the games ex Texas we should. Be competitive. But there are just way too many holes offensively to do much with ou or Texas this year.

So, you were just fine rushing three and allowing OU to pick us apart, which lead to 50 points? ISU has to find overlooked talent because we have no choice, many 4 or 5 star recruits are not going to give us a second loo
The Giants brought pressure against Purdy 85% of the time and he had his best day as a pro. A good QB throws over the blitz and a good amount of the time gets a big play. We brought pressure some; enough that they didn't know what was coming. The better team won. They won by a larger margin because the breaks didn't go our way. It happens.

We’ve had senior laden teams when we’ve hung with the top teams in the conference. This is a very young team. From what I saw yesterday, I think we’ll get back there when this team gets older. But I think we definitely benefitted from that Covid year with guys sticking around longer than they normally would have. Now, we’re paying the price with an extremely young and inexperienced team.
With the transfer portal, the youth excuse flies out the window.

This is year 3 of showing coaching is a greater reason for the losses than talent disparity.

Sounds like we lost in the margins.

Maybe we should focus on them?

It’s not always coaching. I coach two soccer teams. One is currently undefeated…the other hasn’t won a game. Am I just a phenomenal coach for the one team and a garbage coach for the other? Maybe. But I think players matter. This ISU team is young. Campbell might not always pull the right strings, but winning in Oklahoma with this team was a long-shot. I was hopeful that perhaps they could be exposed because they hadn’t played anyone too impressive…but they look legit.
But being so young, on the road playing a very good team are the reasons that ISU has to gamble and try new or different things in the game. OU had all the advantages, experienced QB, better roster and its playing at home. That is when a coaching staff has to lay it all out there on both sides of the ball, because not doing so means you are going to get smoked.
Offensively I felt we did that for a lot of the first half, but the defense did nothing different the entire ballgame, and the OU QB is too talented to allow him that much time in the pocket. We have to be aggressive and force the issue on both sides of the ball, throw the damn ball deep, attack the QB, make him try to figure out where the pressure is coming from. With a young team, its the only way we are going to win games.

Loved what we saw out of the offense early against a solid D in a hostile environment from a qb making his first P5 road start

Yeah he'd make the Oline and defense better.
so the offensive line decided to make two really stupid throws that went straight to the other team, with one being a pick six and the other one giving them very short field position for an easy score? Okay, buddy.

How do you know he wouldn't have had bad throws or turnovers under that much pressure and less speed than Becht?

I'd suggest not watching games if it creates so much turmoil for you. It's not healthy.

what is sad is I am a vikings and Cyclone fan and football is a long season. its Oct 1st and I have conceded another year again.

I think ISU has 1-2 wins left this season, but they won't be favored.

Does anyone know how much NIL money is there for football.
Have no idea but Campbell needs to sit down with Pollard and say "find me booter money. Now. We need to buy talent for 2024 or this same **** is repeating itself."

Lol, what transfers are you expecting him to bring in? This isn't Hoiberg circa 2014 basketball anymore.
ISU 247 transfer ranks: 2021: 79 2 commits 2022: 110 3 commits 2023: 84 3 commits

That's at a P5 school.

We are beneath G5 schools, and it looks like we aren't even trying.

The staff knew we were losing lots of talent after 2021.

And here we are.

Curious, where do people think we will be next year? Why?
