Copied from my post in Iowa recruiting thread (16 wins ties Woody).

KF is in a conundrum. He needs 17 more B1G wins to move into #2 in conference wins ahead of Woody Hayes. Assuming he gets 7 more this year that means he probably needs two more seasons minimum (I guess they could go 8-1 this year and 9-0 next). Ironically, that will probably cost him the 0.600 win percentage he needs for the college HOF. He can't get both unless he can go 8-4 or better the next two years when the schedule should get tougher. He will probably be at 0.5967 after this year.

If he stays through the 2025 season, he will need at least 224 wins to be 0.600. He is at 201, so the countdown is 23. Say he gets 7 this year, that leaves 16, thus the 8-4 or better required. If he leaves after next year, he needs 216 but he would have to go 8-1 this year and 9-0 next year to get the 17 B1G wins.

So, his options are:
#2 in B1G wins OR 0.600 win percentage which qualifies for the college HOF. Doesn't appear he can do both unless he can go 9-3 or so for next several seasons AFTER this current year.
But he could retire after a few cakewalk games at the beginning of the 2025 season when his W% is right at .600. All he needs is a mysterious health issue to crop up as soon as he reaches that magical percentage.

I'm with you except he needs 16 TOTAL wins not league wins which he should do next year regardless. (Woody 205, Kirk 189)

He's got no shot of passing Woody in league wins unless he coaches another 7 or 8 years. (Woody 152, Kirk 115)

What's funny is that his ******, completely forgettable run at Maine is what will keep him out of the HOF if it comes to that.

Yep, I misunderstood. I thought that was Big 10 wins (which if I would have thought about it makes no sense- 190 wins in 25 years).

KF extended his record for most losses in the Big 10 to 116 this past saturday. FYI. So he could be the all time leader in wins and losses eventually.

I believe Dan McCarney is (or at least was if he still isn't) the leader in both wins and losses at Iowa State.
Campbell is 8 wins away from tying him (and already has more conference wins). Thanks for starting me down this internet rabbit-hole…

Then put BF in charge so he would be the interim coach and Iowa could slide him right in.

What I would give to see them lay another goose egg against a horrible Michigan State team this weekend. The carnage would be legendary.
There is no way they do that. History says Kirk threw away the Penn state game (fans were expecting a loss so why worry) and he is going to make sure MSU is a win.
