Fans In the Stands and in the Tailgating Lots

I'll say this. I've always HATED the Iowa game, absolute hatred for being in Ames during this game. My wife made me come because she wanted to tailgate with friends. Never gonna happen again! We will lose to that team for the end of time, 25% of the stands were hawks, huge amounts in the tailgate lots just yelling and breaking balls. I can't imagine anyone actually had fun Saturday.

Seriously? I had a great time Saturday (not counting game outcome, obviously). Great weather, got into the lots relatively easy at about 9:30 (helped that we were coming in on 30 from the West), and had no problems with anyone. Sure, sucks having that many tigerhawk logos nearby, but I didn't even see any bad interactions. My 7 year old daughter said "boo hawkeyes" to probably 100 of their fans and they all just laughed it off.

Didn't seem like too many hawks in section B, but the ones near us were completely respectful. Told a couple behind us it's ok if they cheered a little, but they just stayed silent all game.

So, can someone tell why Iowa fans (unprovoked) have to yell "Go Hawks" to anyone wearing ISU gear... any time and anywhere? Are all of them just that dooshey?
My husband has no common sense. Instead of walking through central campus to the car, where the only Hawks are usually students with Cyclone student friends, he wanted to walk down Lincoln Way to see if Freddie’s was busy. Duh of course it was. And every Cyclone walking or driving the opposite direction got the “Go Hawks” stupid from the Hawks walking behind us. They briefly stopped to make fun of someone crossing the street in a knee brace. And then right back at it.

This is what happens the vast majority of times in both Iowa City and Ames. The rest is just imaginative exaggeration., or possibly even made up. Probably made up based on the way certain posters carry themselves on this site.

If you want a brief conversation, how about "Hey are you from Iowa, I am from Iowa too"? Why go the ******* route?
Apparently because I am douche. I was operating under the assumption that most people have a sense of humor and aren't thin skinned snowflakes.

Yelling it in people's faces is different but just a Go Hawks is pretty harmless. Oklahoma fans down here will say the Boomer Sooner thing in HEB and UT fans laugh it off.

I realize that game days are different with alcohol flowing and fans upset or excited depending on how their team is doing.

Not to pile on, but Iowa fans are the only fanbase I’ve ever seen that feels the need to wear their gear to a game they aren’t even remotely close to being involved in. They do it at JTS, on the road, and at bowl games. After the 2018 Texas game in Austin, I had a guy in an Iowa shirt come up to me (a senior in HS at the time) and say “nice try buddy”.
We saw one when USC was playing at Notre Dame. People behind us were discussing how weird it was.

Guy sitting a couple rows in front of me had UNI gear on a couple weeks ago. Any guesses on what the same guy wore Saturday? You bet he did. Apparently he likes to spend his money and time on weekends routing against ISU but no way guys, that is a totally sane and normal fanbase.

Ran into a guy in Minnesota wearing a Bix7 shirt. I asked if he was from the Quad Cities since I grew up there and know the race well. Guess I could've just dropped a 'Go Lancers' to start that one off.

When I get **** from random Hawk fans now I've just resorted to telling them to go back to Naperville

Based on the looks I got from the people in the Sukup Club that were content to sit on their hands and drink their beer, I keep expecting to see something about me in these threads.

I just don’t understand how you can go to a game and not care/be invested in what’s going on
Were you with the very drunk woman that screeched "GET HIIIIMMMM" on every defensive play?

Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but this was probably the most civil Cyhawk tailgate I've ever been to; I think this was number 10 or 11.

Several hawks in my section but none of them screaming profanity. They still don't know how to spell words with more than four letters, but that's to be expected. They were also doing the wave at the end of the first quarter which seemed really strange. I get they're creatures of habit...
You realize that they had the flags to wave with the letters on them so they could spell the word.

Honestly, if this game got dropped, I would be much happier. It has nothing to do with the wins or losses. The Hok fans make the experience nauseating.
Don't get me wrong, the hawk fans suck arse.

But this game also brings out all of the idiot clone fans that care more about drinking and yelling than understanding the game.

Walking out after the game, my wife was shoved in the back from behind by an hogeye fan (mid-20's female) that yelled to her, "atta girl for cheering for the cyclones."

I have taken the high road for way too long. I now can only hope our ******* fans increase by 10X to compete. I just don't think we have the white-trash inbreeding like they do. I am afraid we will never catch up. We are 50 years behind.

Apologies in advance to those cyclones fans that I offend with this attitude. Hogeye fans on this thread - no apologies. We need to fight trash with trash.
one way to stop them from being there is to not sell your tickets and parking passes to them. think about this for the bb games . just because you can make a lot of money off them is not a reason to sell to them. Keep them out of our house,

There was a young kid in his hok gear that wanted a picture with cy along the railing. His mom stuck her phone up like she was taking a picture only the camera app wasn't open. Then she put the phone away.

I feel for that kid, someone needs to give him guidance and keep him out of the trailer park and marrying his cousin. He shows that he wants to be normal instead.

It is said in a light joking manner. Not yelled in someone's face, which I guess is how "most" Iowa fans do it.

The ISU fans that have given me crap about my hat have all been nice people and usually leads to a brief chat. But I guess them giving me crap is an a****** thing to do? Glad that I have thick skin and having grown up with older brothers can distinguish between someone being an a******and someone just giving you crap.
I am sure ISU fans come up to you all the time when wearing your Iowa hat and say “Go Cyclones.” Give me a break.
