2023 CyHawk

The bears played their home games in Wrigley field for years, they just haven't had a game there in years. Not sure why they are playing there, could be because of NW redoing their stadium.
Lol, no. They're going to have home games in Evanston this season. If the new stadium gets approved Ryan Field will be demolished after the 2023 season.

Was it actually reported? Maybe it was and I missed it?
It happened live on national tv. Remember when Barstool had their panel before the game in 2021? One of the panel members was a pregnant woman. Cannot remember her name for the life of me. Dave Portnoy? picked ISU to win, and some nimrod started throwing almost full beer cans and hit her in the process

That would work also. Some teams probably will not be happy with their protected teams though.
But how will Iowa get their seven home games every year with 10 conference games?

With 2 buy games a year, I guess. So long CyHawk … hello NIU, USU, SDSU, Wyoming (wait, not Wyoming, they look pretty good), Tennessee Tech, etc

The new scheduling system they announced before adding UW and UO had every team playing every other B1G team 2 times every 4 years. Obviously they'll need to revisit but I'm sure they're going to try sticking as close to that as possible. So, yes, Iowa will be playing tOSU, OR Mich, OR USC, OR Oregon, OR PSU, every other season or something very close to that. Sorry.

FIFY. I doubt that lineup of opponents occurs every other season or even close to it. It will be just like this year, except PSU will be cycled out for ONE of those other teams PER YEAR.

They have to have seven home games a year is the most amazing excuse in the world. First it was because they needed the money, then it became to help the area businesses that "need" those games to stay open.

The real reason is very simple, having those extra purchased games at home means 2 more wins per year. EIU has mastered the art of playing one or two lower ranked teams of year, beating the hell out of buy in games, the pillow soft west teams and then getting 8 to 10 wins. They schedule like a lot of teams in the SEC, but at least SEC teams are not saying they are forced too to keep the door open, like EIU does.

IOWA the Fake ID of college football is correct.

Maybe the next push will be to make Week 0 an exhibition/preseason week, and that's where all of the FCS games go.
That’s a thought.

I mean, the push currently seems to be to consolidate the “big names” by inflating conferences to 18/20/24 members, which I guess increases inventory for the media partners - but it doesn’t increase the “inventory” for any of the conference members, since they’re still playing the same number of conference games (even just EIGHT in the SEC).

If they were serious about realignment “matching the best brands more often,” why wouldn’t they be requiring more conference games? Instead it’s status quo so everybody keeps their Wofford/Utah State/Incarnate Word/The Citadel near-guaranteed wins (sorry, Baylor; oops, Texas Tech; you can exhale now, Illinois) and their 7 home games.

(I hate to rag on Texas Tech too much, hey, at least they were willing to make that trip to Laramie, the next time Iowa plays in Laramie/Toledo/Troy will be the heat death of the universe.)

Unless this realignment stuff isn’t about “better competition“ at all, but only about “maximizing those media dollars” …

And ISU schedules a bunch of juggernauts for their non-conference schedule every year? If you go back through the history of both teams' schedules you will find one team that did a bunch of home and homes against other P5 teams and the other didn't.

That was also when the B12 already had moved to a 9 game schedule and the Big Easy was still playing 8 games. Lets look at those juggernauts EIU scheduled for their other game. Pitt, Syracuse, Arizona, and maybe Arizona St. only one of them had a winning record and Syracuse won a game or two those seasons.

I have no problem scheduling a couple of wins, I do have a problem of the EIU fan base thinking the Cyclone game is beneath them, and they should drop it to play a "real" team or talking how the game should be a 2 for 1 instead of a home and home. If EIU drops the ISU game they are not scheduling good teams, more often than not it will be another MAC team or someone like that.

Schedules should be standardized across CFB (or at least the Power/Autonomy conferences), but that would require a Czar of Football.

FCS exhibition in Week 0
10 conference games
2 non-conference vs FBS

It'd probably result in a few lower-level bowls going away (those teams that have to count an FCS win to finish 6-6 wouldn't be able to do so), but would be an improvement in pretty much every other phase.

Depends on how the Big 10 does scheduling going forward. If they do 10 conference games, then I'm fine with two lesser programs. If they stay at 9 games and Iowa and ISU drop the series, then I'm confident Iowa would be able to find more P5 (or whatever it will be called going forward) teams to play home and homes with.

I do remember the year Iowa played Miami (not the Ohio one) at Kinnick. I was working in the tower at The Eastern Iowa Airport when the team plane came in, and even the pilot was talking trash.

Of course Miami was ranked No. 1 at the time, so, trash talking was justified. But the pilot?

EDIT: I looked back to check on that game - 1992? I had no idea it was that long ago …

Thanks! Seemed like a KF style of win. Downing Punta at the one, good punt returns, intercepting passes, long FGs and QB sneaks. Felt like I was watching Iowa highlights.
It feels kind of gross to say it, but that was exactly what I thought too- felt like watching Iowa.

Now that ISU has finally realized special teams is a thing, maybe this is the year CMC can finally beat Kirk at his own game.

Nicely done - but if we had a Czar of Football we wouldn’t have 18/20/24 team conferences in the first place, not if that czar was competent.

Twelve 10-team conferences with a round-robin; or maybe ten 12-team conferences with nine-game conference schedules. Conference champions make the playoffs. Boom, done.

So do I, hell of a two game series, those games took place 30 years ago.
