Aside from the rivalry week 1 has never seemed to hold much water for either team over time.
6-3 final score. 280 yards of total offense between both teams. All three field goals set up by turnovers.

ISU will prolly beat Iowa 27-24 next week. Contreras going 9-9 on FGs, 7 of them from 52 or further.
Hawks claimed field goals don’t count when Shaggy beat them with five. Then under the Brain offense, when they relied on them and defense to put points on the board, field goals were all the rage.
Iowa's offense is barely improved. I think Cade is an upgrade over Petras, but he is not Gods gift to mankind. If Iowa States defense plays like it did vs UNI the Clones should win at home.
Stats may not look great but we did exceed 25 points unlike Brian…
Other than the 2 overtime games, the last time the Over hit in this series was 2003.
Both teams make you earn your yards, but there's still a heavy dose of "playing not to lose" in this series. I'm hoping to see some play action bombs to Noel next week. I think we have more big play ability than Iowa, and I want to see it.
ISU is going to come after McNamara early and often. Didn’t watch the Iowa game but heard he didn’t look close to 100%.
I thought Brian called one of his best plays ever when he made the DB fall down for no reason, and he put that blue shirt guy in the stands with his hands up to block the only camera angle showing the ball squirt around unsecured when it first contacted the ground.

OP’s theory has validity. Bundy is from Illinois which is where they get most of their students . Based on Bundt’s poor academics, EIU was likely his only choice.
you are right, we haven't won since 2011. Our special teams alone have cost us a couple of those loses. Even last year our special team were a disaster at Iowa. 2019 was the worst, setting up Iowa for a short field so they can get their only TD. We tried to return a kick out of the end zone get caught at the 15, penalty so ended up at the 5. Had to kick out of our end zone, terrible punt coverage so Iowa got a return that got them in the rezone. Then our special team failed to down a punt inside the 5 with two guys right on top of the ball. Finally, two guys ran into each other on a punt return and it resulted in a turnover.
A lot of times the difference in this game is special teams and turnovers. Our special teams looked really good yesterday so I am confident our special teams will be competent against Iowa, if we do not turn it over, we have a good chance to win.
