w/ Ryan Harklau (1 hr)

Carson Hansen. RB, 6-2, 210. Minnesota Gatorade POY.

Lots of Abu Sama mention here, rightly so. But Hark spoke strongly about Carson, as have others in earlier weeks. Just wanted to get his name into the discussion.
Yes, and Campbell said recently that any of 5 RB's could could start or play for this team now. I was able to name 4 of them, but was unsure about the 5th until now.

It will be fun, I hope, to see the RB's play and develop!! The youngest are #5 Norton (true soph), #33 Harris (RS freshman), and #24 Samu and #25 Hansen (both freshmen). There is talent there, how much? we will soon see.

The 'old' guy is is Sanders (RS soph)!

That's a young RB room! Let's go O-Line!!!

Hansen’s video is impressive. When he signed here though, I thought for sure he would end up being an amazing LB since our RB room was loaded, but with losing Brock maybe he has a legit shot at RB…. plus it sounds like he’s definitely good enough.

And since Harklau mentioned he ran a 10.8 100m…

10.85. Round up, or round down?

Still darn good for a guy listed at 6’2” 210.

He is at 215 now. Since he as good athleticism and pass catching ability to go with that size, I would not be surprised to see him play a role in the offense this year. One podcast described him as a bigger Josh Lenz.

I have to say that Ryan does a great job as a sideline reporter. He had huge shoes to fill since I thought Ben was really, really good.

I'm probably an outlier, but I like "homer" radio guys. I can be plenty negative on my own and god knows you can find the negative on here, so I like hearing that things aren't as bad as I fear.
I like homer announcers too, but I feel like Hark is 100% blowing smoke up asses to get people excited and a week from now this thread will be bumped with a bunch of angry posts.

I do really like Hark, but I don’t believe a ******* word about the OL

well that optimism has a pretty short shelf life if that's true. Lay an egg against UNI and you're right. He'd lose credibility pretty quick. Which, if he is choosing to take that route, would be a little surprising.

I'll be honest, I find it stupid that people take the hype all that seriously. It's the same thing when CW or the guy on 247 talk about players that they've heard good things about. People act like it is the Word of God or some stupid **** like that instead of some low level staffer telling them the first player that comes to mind.

I'd much rather enjoy the preseason and have some hope. It's not going to make any of us less sad/mad if the season sucks.

Does his credibility matter? He's a home team radio analyst. He knows the players and coaches much better than we do, why would we think he'd be anything other than excited about the team? Why would we want him to be?

credibility as an objective analyst. sounds like he's already lost it in your view

Agree with CW but Harklau actually has played high level FB and has seen 2 scrimmages this fall. Big difference.

Time for the recruiting to start showing on the field.

Really hope the offense moves a little smoother than when under Manning.

Couldn't agree more. It's about keeping reports in context. Not only is it word of mouth from low level staffers, but it's in relation to the rest of the roster.

Brahmer is clearly going to be a good player, but a report that he's dominating a practice or whatever doesn't mean he's going to dominate the Big 12. It means he's likely a hit as a recruit before his career is over. But lot of fans take these reports and extrapolate it to full season performance., tell their friends, and then ***** when a kid isn't all conference as a freshman.

You ever get that feeling in your gut that this should be a season where we historically should suck ... and we don't. And Campbell is back in demand. It's how I'm feeling.
I don't know, feels like the worst vibes of any Campbell offseason. That's tough to shake. I'm ready for some football and hope you're right.

I like that Harklau is optimistic. He has seen guys in practice and obviously thinks we have talent. How that plays out, we will see. Why choose to be pessimistic when the season hasn’t started yet. I’ve enjoyed Cyclone football under Matt Campbell more than any other time period in my 56 years of life.

I don't think we should suck. I think last year was a fluky season in the middle of otherwise steady, good seasons. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong.
