w/ Ryan Harklau (1 hr)

Not familiar with Sound the Cyrens. Who is the host? I Googled it and didn't learn much. Are there any connections to the Athletic Department, KXNO, CF, Iowa Everywhere, etc.? Or is this just a guy who gets some good people to come on his pod?

No none of those connections. He is just an Iowa State grad who was a really good HS basketball coach in the North Central Conference for years, and his son.

They are from Humboldt, which is where Ryan Harklau is from, which probably explains this appearance. But he has enough connections as an alum to get some other good guests it would seem.

I'm 1 quarter way through this podcast and am ready to jump through a brick wall. The last quote by Ryan has me so excited..

"You will know quarter 1 why Ryan Clanton is at Iowa State."
"When you see our defensive line frustrated in practice... That's a good sign"

Ohhh buddy.

'Laughing' because I promised myself not to get hyped....but here we are.

After watching this, I’m mentally running through the position groups.

Safeties: Great
Corners: Great
Linebackers: 2/3 really good + Tyson Veidt = …Pretty Good
Defensive Line: Really Good
Offensive Line: Vastly Proved = …..Good?
Tight Ends: Good, morphing towards Very Good
Running Backs: Harklau Approved = Very Good

The only two groupings I didn’t catch much on (from Harklau) were Wideouts and Quarterback. At least, specifics about talent for QB. Did I miss that?

However, from what I’ve heard elsewhere (largely about Higgins), I’d have to rate that position…

WR: Good, Trending Upwards

And lastly, while I really, really respect the talent of Rocco Becht and JJ Kohl, I can’t bring myself to expect a Brock Purdy freshman season out of either of them. You know, in spite of the fact that both of them have already been on campus longer than Brock was before his first action. And thus…

QB: ?

(That said, I’d rank both Becht and Kohl ahead of Meyer and Arnaud in terms of base talent)

If our OL is average (which is a huge step up from last year), our RBs can produce (which goes back to our OL), our QBs will have so much weight taken off their shoulders.

Continuing to listen here and "I don't think (Arlen) Harris is a starter day 1, but the kid will give you three yards every time. The kid is just a muscle. Just a meat." "Oh we need two yards? Okay, here we go."

That's pretty cool to hear as we haven't heard much about him throughout this fall camp. I also heard he was still figuring a lot of things out, so hopefully he's taking that next step. From what Ryan is saying, it sounds like our RB room is not going to be an issue this year, even without Jirehl.
