Same reason I presume a 2x4 measures 1.5x3.5.Dumb question... Why does a 2x2x8 furring strip measure 1.5x1.5x8?
It looks so good! THANK YOU!I’m using it for my current project. @Angie and @Mr Janny. I got your door and the paint will be done tomorrow. I can’t send pics through PMs.

Dumb question... Why does a 2x2x8 furring strip measure 1.5x1.5x8?
Actually, 2X4's were originally downsized to 1 5/8" X 3 5/8". Sometime in the 1960's/early 1970's I believe the 1.5" X 3.5" became the standard.Same reason I presume a 2x4 measures 1.5x3.5.
I’ve done work on old homes where a 2x4 actually measures 2x4. I suspect sometime in the 50’s or 60’s lumber sizes adjusted to todays standards for an unknown reason to me.
NOI always assumed 2x4 was the size it is because after 1/2 drywall it's then 4.
I'm sure that probably isn't the reason.

No but I think I'm going to try Rubio Monocoat on a table I'm building. No VOCs and only 1 coat for application.Has anyone used straight Arm R Seal on poplar? No stain, just natural.

Will do! I have a kid so may take way too long to actually build the tableLet us know how it goes. My go to is the Arm R Seal because it's a stir and wipe application. It has been very durable on the projects I've made with it.
I like Odie's Oil. No mixing either. I have use Arm R Seal, but not on poplar. I like it, but it is a littler more sheen on it than I would like for some projects. I also like the wood bowl finish from General as well.No but I think I'm going to try Rubio Monocoat on a table I'm building. No VOCs and only 1 coat for application

I'm planning on running down there Saturday morning to listen to Roy Underhill. If you've never heard him speak in person he's fantastic. I bought a shirt off him from the back of his mini-van last time they had the show. I also plan on giving Lost Art Press some money while I'm there.I’m really looking forward to this event this weekend. Should be tons of fun if you like hand tools:

It’s a hand tool expo in the Amana Colonies, if anyone is interested.
