I was just thinking about realignment while taking my 10:15am ****. This kind of reminds me of the end days of the Pro Wrestling territory system. Eventually the territories get weakened enough to the point Vince Jr can afford to buy them all up and unite them under one banner. I wonder if/when we ever get to that point.

No PAC school is worth $32M on their own. Fox/ESPN are partly gambling that Big12 (and B1G) eyeballs will stay on their platforms later by adding conference games in western time zones. They know the western schools can’t do it on their own.

What is Oregon worth on their own? I’d say they are worth $32 million. Washington too.

People forget how excited we were to play them in the fiesta I guess.

Arizona Basketball and money will lead them to the Big 12. Chance to play in the best basketball league will not be passed up. They know the risk in staying. Plus their basketball is elite compared to the rest of the PAC 12.

Yep, even though Arizona isn’t a great football brand, you get 1) a solid basketball program and 2) another PAC defection, which is win-win. Arizona as the 14th works for me.

I'm hesitant to see the big 12 move to 16 teams but someone mentioned that with 16 means we could have 4 pods and the idea of the big 8 pod of K state, ISU, Kansucks, and OSU. would be cool.

Think about it though. If PAC schools were worth it on their own, we wouldn’t be having this conversation because the PAC would already have a deal. Instead, CU bolted to a conference with Midwest and eastern eyeballs, conventional wisdom has AZ behind them, with ASU, UU, OR and WA flirting with the same situation.

The PAC wouldn’t be in this situation if their own fan bases were enough.

This is just one small reason why “is So and so school worth $X?” isn’t a great way to look at things. Same as “do they add value though?”. I think of it like sports cards, you can’t just pull a $5.00 card out of a just released pack and say “I have 100 $5.00 cards already this doesn’t add value to my collection”.

My point is there is a lot more to think about than just right now in this moment.

I would never jump with excitement to join the MAC instead of the Big Ten combing myself the MAC is way better. That’s where UU fans are.

Get that, and I’d still say Oregon and Washington alone are worth it with total contract being dragged down by the other schools who aren’t. Also easier given the financials right now with the networks to pay them $64 million than the whole PAC.

Considering most of the schools in the former Pac-10 couldn't stop laughing at Iowa State when we almost got dumped on a decade ago, then yeah, we think it's funny. Karma, it's what's for dinner.

You cannot have half a game.

Going to throw this out there.

Being creative it is possible to work around the odd number. We know our commissioner can be creative.

You force (work out the details-alternate teams by year, etc.) one conference member to count their highest ranked out-of-conference foe as a conference game. It's just one game and if it affects conference standings so-be-it.

Is it ideal? No. But better than promoting yet another G5 to the big time.

That seems like a reasonable way around it if the teams to choose from aren't what the Big 12 office is looking for. You'd need to make sure that the designated team has a non conference opponent that meets a certain standard.
