Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Exactly. And that’s why neither can or will be the “next Texas.” They have no leverage to get special treatment.

People around here talking About Oregon and Washington like they’re….TEXAS Lol. No matter what Texas has or hasn’t done recently in football they have been and always will be a football blue blood. They are also a HUGE brand. Probably as big as all of the PAC football brands combined. Stop looking at season records from your recent memory, that’s not what any of this is about. If ND went 0-12 for the next 5 years the Big 10 would still murder their own families to get them in that league.

Maybe not immediate family but extended family for sure

I’m sorry but if this is true then it sounds like you’re trading the texas problem for something much worse. Conference naming rights? Are we serious? If you think the perception of the Big12 is rough right now adding Oregon and immediately allowing them to rename the conference would be the most JV thing I’ve ever seen. The commish has been a rock star so far so I assume he won’t do something this stupid.
I wouldnt go as far as these guys go on the naming thing.

But I could see something like a sponsorship. Something like the Big 12 sponsored/brought to you by Nike.

Somewhat like they did with Phillip 66 and basketball. Only for the entire conference.

That would the extent of it.

Not that we will still be called the Big 12 in the future.

Everyone that says Oregon would be the new Texas, are stretching it. Texas is in another realm.

I don’t have a plan, Yormark is still refusing to bring me on as a consultant.

I said before, 13 works for me for 2024-25. Somebody said you can’t do 9 conference games with 13, maybe that’s an issue, I dunno.

Yes 13 x 9 = 117. You need 2 teams per game. 117 doesn’t divide by 2 without a remainder. So someone would only play 8 games.

So a 14th team needs to be added, hopefully for 2024.

I think selling naming rights is the general idea and Oregon would be the conduit, not the decider. Don't see it happening, but the Big12 is trying to generate revenue outside the traditional sources, which we need to do to maintain a semblance of parity for CFB playoff and other competitive reasons.

Maybe they could license the Big12 logo to BuschLite :jimlad:

Worse than UConn? I’d view them pretty similarly. And SDSU would have the effect of hurting the PAC still
If it’s adding UConn as a full member as the only other addition that’s bad. If the pac lived and the only teams the big 12 added were CU and UConn this would go from an incredible victory to looking pretty bad.

I want neither of them. But atleast UConn is a major force in basketball and huge brand. SDSU is trash in sports outside of a random above average year, no one cares about watching them, no brand value and the only thing good about them is the weather they have in the city they’re located.

Yeah, they'd be a high value, but not so high that they could really throw their weight around the way Texas and to a lesser extent Oklahoma could.

Especially since there's really no leverage to be had. In the scenario Oregon joins the big 12, their options are "stay in the big 12" or "take a big 10 offer (if it comes)". Since that offer isn't likely to come, they really have no leverage, and even if it did come, they have little leverage because there's no way they're turning down the offer at that point (no big 12 school would)

I’m curious, if all P9 teams say no, why don’t we take SDSU rather than UConn. Better in football, still good in basketball. And taking SDSU seriously hamstrings P9’s efforts to backfill. Our conference could also afford to help with their exit fee

SDSU has had some recent success. But this is a long term decision. And UCONN has better history, support, and better potential for growth.

I don’t think it would be bad necessairly. We still secured a P5 team.

But neither here nor there. In the hypothetical situation all remaining PAC teams said no, we have to add another team because, as far as I understand, we must have 9 conference games. And you can’t have 9 conference games with 13 teams

So, in that event, I think I’d take SDSU over UConn.

If the P9 stays together, it will have to be UCONN or SDSU. If BY wants UCONN, he knows more about this than the collective intelligence of this entire board.

Neither would be full members. Why so many people don’t understand that is crazy.

CU coming aboard is already a huge win. Huge. If the P10 had hung together, we would have had to listen the their blowhards cackle for the next 5 years that no one wanted the Big 12.

Anything going forward is gravy, even if it is UCONN or SDSU for 2024. We will still hold our three full value expansion slots for the PAC or ACC.

Will Oregon be as conjoined to Nike once Phil Knight dies? We've always known Oregon = Nike but is that only because of Phil Knight. Not saying they wouldn't be always Nike branded but does saying they have Nike money end with Phil Knight?

And if it is UConn and just Colorado that is a failure. The whole reason Colorado is a good add is that it destabilizes the pac. They are not a good program, brand, or ratings draw. The only reason you can even add them is becuase of the amazing contract the commish got with escalators for adding P5 teams. Without those the networks in no way pay full value for CU and that’s going to have to be something to think about for the next deal.

Ok, you’d view it as a failure.

But, irregardless, we HAVE to add a 14th team. So who’s better SDSU or UConn? SDSU would still hurt the P12 and their backfill attempt.

Or we could go to a 10 game conference schedule I guess.
