Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

That MWC buyout # really puts them in a bind. Whenever I say "new Pac" and "new MWC" I'm just thinking of the best 10-12 team realistic pac and then MWC promoting up NDSU/Mont/MontSt.

They really screwed it not getting at least SDSU in by that deadline. Not sure what SMU's situation is...although at this point is SMU thinking they're better off sticking with the remnants of AAC and keeping their travel down?
i am not sure what number of schools is required to dissolve the MWC, but i would guess it is at least 7 teams which is >50% of the schools. if the PAC is adding more than 1 school than i think they are adding 7 schools from the MWC and 'merging'.

I just don't understand how the P9 is going to negotiate a media deal of any sort right now. They have no idea who the members are going to be - things are changing by the hour right now and P9 is running out of time. There would have to be like 100 different contingencies drawn up...
This didn’t just start yesterday either. I’m pretty sure BY was keeping his media contacts informed.

The timing of the writers strike is certainly in their favor. Networks need original programming for the fall since TV shows aren't in production. That's why the CW is making recent deals with ACC and NASCAR.

It would be weird if Oregon and Washington didn’t come together.

I think Washington has an opportunity to go independent that no one else in the PAC does. They could hold out and do that if they have feelers that they’re a Big10 target in their next round of expansion. But that’s the only reason I could see Washington not following Oregon.

Does anyone have any insight into those state university structures? Will there be pushback for them to leave without WSU or OSU? I know UCLA has to pay off Cal

Awe this is cute.

This mentality doesn't make sense. Pro-rata is good for 16 teams, so add 3 more. Improve the brand and messaging for the length of the new media deal. Big 12 isn't getting the best teams from the ACC anyway, so why wait? ACC and PAC remnants can merge to form a 2nd coast-to-coast conference like the Big 12.

I was just typing a comment that this "only one more team" idea was probably media driven. $60M+ per year is a lot to add for an even number 16 if you don't need to.

I’ve gotta imagine it depends on who those teams are. If AZ is 14, would the networks really not want Washington and Oregon as well?

If BY is anywhere as good as we think he is he already has a spreadsheet with every permutation of a potential Big 12 expansion and what the media members would think about it.

Nah, if By is anywhere as good as we think he has people smarter than him looking at that data to advise him on what to do.
